Prepper maths is basically decide how long you want to prepare for, 6 months, a year, 2 years, then work out how many tins/packets you would need a day, and times that by the 2 years, or however long you are prepping for. As long as hubby is eating the oldest tins of tuna first, and you are putting new packs at the back, you're doing great. I feel so proud when I see another UK'er being a prepper. There aren't many of us. When you ask how much is too much, I don't believe there's such a thing as too much, because once you have a really good stock, there's going to be some weeks, months where you don't even have to do any shopping, apart from some fresh stuff. You can then use that spare cash for buying bigger items/different items other than food that preppers also want, but can't always afford. Food stocks aren't meant to just sit on the shelves and hoarded. Food gets old then if it's just hoarded.(Still edible tho, even if old). Rotate through them and use, whilst always replacing with new. If you're worried about people seeing your stuff, cover them up with little curtains or cardboard, anything. Which would be good anyway, because you want to keep light off your stocks. Cool, dark storage keeps your food in best condition for the long term. Well done young lady.

Thank you for another helpful comment! And thanks for your support too. Yes I definitely need to knuckle down and do some prepper maths and work out how much of everything we need. I'm so glad there is a community of UK preppers to seek advice from! I like the idea about the little curtains. Cheers!

I freeze my butter all the time, it's great, Lovely creamy and fresh still a couple of years later. I also freeze blocks of lard, cheese, milk, eggs. You have to mix the egg yolks & whites up first though, then they freeze great. After about a year, the consistency thickens, but still perfectly fine and useable for scrambling, baking, omelettes, whatever you would normally do. You can also freeze flour, nuts, peanut butter. One of the best things to buy is a second-hand separate freezer. Get one for £40 off gumtree or somewhere.

That's really helpful, thank you! I think I need to use up some bits in my freezer first, but as soon as I have more room I will try freezing some. And I agree! We got a second freezer a few years ago and it was a great purchase.

Your pantry is looking a whole lot better that it was last time. I would take the packaging off the tins as will stack better and if you have a spare afternoon, write the BBF date with a sharpie on top of all the can as that will help you rotate your stock. Also when you outgrow your pantry and start to store food elsewhere, stick up a white board (or create a spreadsheet) to keep track of what you have and where you have hid it. Water is the biggest space thief, if you have somewhere to store them, get some 25lt water containers (and a tap for them), that might seem like a lot of water, but if you go by a gallon (4.5lt) a day, that is only 5.5 days worth of water for one person 😞

Thanks Lee, the pantry goes through peaks and troughs but I'm trying to make a conscious effort to avoid gaps now. I spotted 'Scottish Prepper 73' had a good system wtih marking BBF in sharpie and using a whiteboard for his food preps and really liked that. I could do with more bottled water inside. It's not ideal but I feel slightly better about having two large water butts outside (can filter and boil plus have water purification tablets).

@@StrivingforSelfSufficiency If you have found SP73, check out his video on lighting as he has some USB LED ribbon lights, which might appeal to you with a love of Christmas lights :-) Yes that was what I was on about with the board or spreadsheet - I use the spread sheet as it does all the maths for me (adding items from different locations)

Flour. Get non gmo wheat grain. You can use a hand mill . If you store it correctly it will last forever. Or as long as you need to store it. I am going to get one next month. Also making your own yeast.

Your doing great. I would suggest to definitely keep rotating your stock as when I first started I never thought of this and once your getting a good stock it gets more difficult. Keep it up :)

I think the numbers of people interested in preparedness are growing - we are all learning, and it's lovely to have a community of people supporting and encouraging each other. Thank you for your support, and best of luck with your preparedness journey!

@StrivingforSelfSufficiency there's the key in my humble opinion. Local people supporting local people and businesses. They are ( for whatever reason) trying to destroy communities and atomising us. Divide and conquer? Who knows 🤷♂️ but better to have what you need and never use it or need something and not have it. Good luck with your channel 👍. You reap what you sow and you're sowing positive seeds for your life and your family.

Hi new subscriber here. I’m in UK also. Do you stock up on laundry products as well? I’m trying to buy when things are on offer. Shampoo, shower gel I try to buy in 5ltr size. Works out a lot cheaper.🤗

Hi, thank you for subscribing! Yes, trying to get more non-food products in bulk now too - great to hear you're in a similar mindset. I got some things in 5L tubs but still trying to find products that I like. I touch on it a little bit in this video, not sure if you've seen: kzitem.info/news/bejne/yoSFnoZ_fpZzqY4si=YzIvSXn4rik9OhAU

I try to buy something for prepper pantry every week as prices are constantly going up. As far as having your stockpile in the open would it be possible to have food with best by date in 2024 on those shelves and store the rest under your bed or somewhere away from prying eyes?

That's a good way to build on preps, little and often 👍 It is much harder to get more for your money these days 🙁 Love the suggestion, thank you - I think under bed storage is a great idea.
