Ben Crosland is an incredible programmer. Ultimately it's the programmer that makes the biggest difference when it comes to synthesis. At the end of the day you can have as many filters, LFO's and oscillators as you want and end up with crap. If you understand what's going on under all the architecture though & understand the core components of synthesis you can do anything. That being said though the modulus really does sing!

Can you say 5200$ fantastic? The Xfer Serum sounds fantastic for 190$, but this? You can get almost any vintage synth for this amount of cash... And this just doesn't sound right...
@Psychlist1972

theeltea It is expensive for sure, but so are the other top tier synthesizers. The DSI Pro 12 is $3000 and doesn't sound half as good as this, IMO. The Radikal Accelerator is up there as is the Nord Stage, and none of them have the great analog filters this has (those filters add a LOT of components and factory adjustments to a synth because you need a full implementation per voice). The Omega Code will set up back over the price of this if you get 8 voices. That has all analog, including the discrete filters. The Jown Bowen Solaris is $600 MORE than this synth. Is it overpriced? Hard to say. It's expensive, but I also think it's unique and sounds really good. The UI is great as well. Personally I'd like to see it cheaper, but perhaps that's just my greed speaking. :)

Forehand Anhyzer - "the price is conspicuously absent. it is $5,200!! For a digital synth". Maybe you've missed that but the Modulus 002 is NOT a "digital" synth if you compare it to typical VA architecture machines (thank god). Check the specifications on their website. Furthermore, you would need to cash 12 x 3,295.00 to get same polyphony with moog's! That would be $39,540.00. MiniMoog is not aimed as multi-timbral workhorse machine. Happy New Year!

Brilliant sounding synth, but no pitch and modulation wheels? Or even better some kind of a ribbon controller that you can assign to control the pitch or whatever. Everything else is bloody perfect in my opinion. Joystick is really cool, but not enough - too tiny IMO. Analogue filter and the drive is a perfect touch to mellow down the digital oscillators. Digital oscillators + analogue processing sounds great! It reminds me of PPG 2.3 on steroids. ;) I wonder if you can modulate waves like PPG can? However, I think the price is a bit too steep. $3000 or so? yes, that would be perfect. Maybe you could make some Eurorack modules? I'd definitely buy that filter! :)

Then, let me say it again. The Modulus 002 is NOT a "digital" synth if you compare it to typical VA architecture machines. Specifications on their website stated clearly: Analogue / digital hybrid architecture NCOs. Everything after that, in the sound path, is A N A L O G :) One of very,very strong selling points, at least for me, is its 12 voices polyphony. Perfectly for daily multi-timbral studio work. To disarm some of the statements made for this video. I think that there's nothing wrong with MiniMoog's either. BUT! You would need to cash 12 x 3,295.00 to get same polyphony with moog's. That would be $39,540.00. MiniMoog is not aimed as multi-timbral workhorse machine. My point is: Moog is Moog, and Modulus 002 is Modulus 002. That's it. If you have enough money, buy this synthesizer and make some hits. That's my plan, anyway.

Any digital hardware synth is a softsynth in a box these days.....but there is no comparison in the control ability. I would love a huge, MIDI controller that had the amount of knobs, sliders, mod wheels needed for all of the on screen features that are built in to most soft synths, but there is no such controller that I am aware of, thus there is no comparison. I would like to know of any bands or artists out there currently playing live in a traditional synth sort of style using soft-synths. I'd like to just see the setup to find out what kind of controllers are being used.

Modulus touts it that this is the only British synth in decades but this is not surprising in a nation which employs 1.7 million people in NHS health care - what a bureaucratic mess their economy is, and starting a business there must be a nightmare scenario. I do have respect for these Modulus people to deal with that hellhole and come out with this nice product. Love the big display. I think Elektron would do well to pay attention to what a big display can do.

funkyfredfrog Some people when they hear that nobody can produce a synth in England for decades ask, why? Others like you are not so inquisitive and that's ok. I merely answered this question. The answer becomes obvious if you look at the British government and its wealth and innovation destroying bureaucracies. That's how it has a bearing on this synth and any other product in Britain.
