Thank you for choosing this song...its beauty and sorrow in one.

I believe this is the only song that Prince used Christmas in the lyrics. The studio version is superior to the live version which is the reverse of most Prince songs. The studio version was released as a b-side to the single I Would Die 4 U. The song is attributed to Prince and the Revolution, but it is actually only Prince that wrote the song, sung the song, and played all of the instruments; something he did for the majority of the songs on his 39 studio albums.

I congratulate you on how you let the song play, and then you react to it. This is a most precious song of mine, from Prince, that got me thru some tough times when I was younger. Thanks for you reaction to Another lonely Christmas by Prince Rogers Nelson.

I don't know how old you are but back in the 80's they released albums and records and on the albums and records they had an A and B side to the record. And the song from Purple Rain called I Would Die 4 U had this song as the B side on the record when he released that song. If I remember correctly, I'm pretty sure I'm right but you can google it if you want to, great video.

As far as I know this is the only live version of this song. It was done on December 26th 1984. It doesn't really compare to the recorded version which is amazing. Swirling. Painful.

I love this song but I would never have recommended a live version of it to anyone but a die-hard Prince fan. I would have recommended you react to the studio recording of this classic B-side track. That studio version has the production value better suited to someone who just dabbles in his music. It's an amazing sounding song. Not just the composition and the unexpected twist in the narrative, but the studio recording has literally an amazing sound, like he's recording it all--vocals, piano, guitar & drums--in some oversized, grand hall. The acoustics just always sounded so different to my ears on this track than any other song of his I've heard; Expansive, crisp, and resonant. He hits some gorgeous notes on the studio version, sending a shiver or two down my back.

Ok- I’m a stout Prince fan. From his 1st album thru his 3 movies and contribution to the Batman sound track to his final album & yet to be released works, that said- I wasn’t feeling this song. BUT that’s ok, the great thing about his music is the depth of his catalog. You WILL find a song you like and probably a lot! His skill set, originality and creativity was unparalleled, there are not a lot of artists who not only can compose and play music for himself and others but can play every instrument in the Entire orchestra!! Angela is right in that you either like or don’t like his music, but I’m sure that whoever a person is a fan of, there has been a least favorite song to say the least. Oh, and for those who ask- how can you be a fan of unreleased songs when you haven’t heard them yet? Well I base that strictly on his style, which has always been a constant.

Love Prince but not one of his better ones in my opinion. As far as Christmas songs go I really like Queens "winters tale" wrote just before Freddie death . Frankie Goes to Hollywood "the power of love" is decent song although strictly it was only labelled a Christmas song by virtue of the video

I have to admit he had a lot of talent, but he was too self centered and arrogant, and not very friendly! I call them as I see them! Not crazy about this song, to use your words!

Thought Mike was more talent, thought prince was a little jealous, and tried to copy others like Hendrix, Bob delon, Mitch jajjar of the rollinstones, , too much.and felt was more original( my spelling may be off,a little on the names).
