I've never seen this and I've watched hours of Senna video. My first reaction is that these laps are a career bow out to his beloved Brazilian fans in the best conditions that he loved. Because after this, it all goes down hill from here; except for his final pole position. Any thoughts?

+Scott Ventura In fact he didn't like racing in the wet. He thought it was horrible. Not being able to see anything above 1m in front of you. He was the king of the rain because he was fearless and incredibly skilled to push his car to the limit in spite of bad weather conditions.
@vtm914
8 жыл бұрын
+mehdi017 I only base that on his reaction in his first Brazilian GP win (I think) when he began pointing into the air when it started raining. Of course ,logically, racing in the rain would be scary as hell and constantly pushing, as he did, would be constant stress.

+ivydude13 +ivydude13 I totally agree. As aesthetically beautiful of a car that it is and dominant in previous years, it brings to mind so many negative thoughts. I mean the fact that the active suspension was legal in the first place seems like the FIA was selectively bending the rules. (Lauda's fan car was banned) But then throwing the FW16 back out there for 94 without a major suspension redesign created a very dangerous environment for their drivers, but it's a dangerous business. If you haven't already seen this, I think this video (parts 1-6) will answer more questions about Senna's crash. One last thing, before I was ever in to F1, before I saw Senna, before watching hours and hours of video, I came across Senna's crash video on KZitem (one of the first You Tube videos I ever watched) and my first reaction was "driver error". This video implies that. So my uneducated hunch was right, but what I didn't know was that it was an uncontrollable car at the limit.
@Gump-tion
8 жыл бұрын
Yeah Scott, the current just seem to turn against Senna in his last couple seasons. Can you imagine what Senna would have done with the 92' and 93' Williams-with his skill and experience. He probably would have lapped the field at every race. I saw some analysis on his fatal crash as well. From what I saw, it appeared that the car sat too low and bottomed out and just as Senna was doing the instinctive thing to do and turn the wheel, it caught traction again and rocketed off into a wall. I remember once in school we were doing vector analysis on curves and the math actually made a strong argument for how Senna could have crashed. But like you said, it was def an uncontrollable car at the limit. You also mentioned driver error. I'm just curious, what's your argument for driver error?

With Senna alive Briatore and his cheating ways with Benetton and later Renault (Singapore 2008) would have disappeared from the sport after 1994. Senna told Prost on the phone that he suspected Benetton was cheating. Later in the year it became clear they had, and were banned for just three races. Shame Senna had to die trying to beat an illegal Benetton.

This should explain 68 poles -- 91 victories vs. 65 poles -- 41 victories (but only 19 fastest laps, when it was necessary to take risks vs. MSC's 76 fastest laps, who takes risks WITHIN the race IF necessary). Hope these are sufficient to explicate my point. & I appreciate your gentlemanly & argumentative style. Be well...like any other Schumacher fan (not the Ralf one :-) )!

Prost had 5 champion team mates and defeated them all at least once. Lauda, Rosberg, Senna, Mansell and Hill. Prost had 28 wins at the end of 1987 making him the most successful driver in F1 history at the time (Jackie Stewart held the previous all time record with 27 wins) and he was already a two time champion with two very near titles in 83 and 84. Senna beat Prost in the same car. That made him a legend. None of Schumacher's team mates had even won a race before joining Benetton or Ferrari

Senna certainly liked the Lambo engines, so it's hard to say... Regardless the Lambo engine was notoriously unreliable, while the Peugeot engine didn't have the brute force to win 100% of the time.I probably agree that Senna would've continued to under-perform at Mclaren, if podium finishes every year in the drivers championship is under performing anyway... Even ignoring his death I think he would've had a far better first half to the 94' season elsewhere.

remember that in the mid-90s over here cars have become more resilient so Schumacher could impress at the pace we rode still finished 95% of the races, without taking them to the credit of course. When the car broke more he took a stick in the Senna added 92 and 93 seasons with 11 leavers and each; Senna won 8 to 1 and made 123 points against 105 for the German cars with similar incomes. You already talk that rivals were schumacher auto level, I disagree, most do not, the best teammate who had been Schumi Rosberg, Massa was before, without comment, Frentzen was worse than Hill, and Hill walked 1.5 sec slower than Senna, Massa Vileneuv lost pro at Sauber,,,, Alonso is genius and Hakimen can say that it hurt.

Clark had 28 fastest laps, 25 wins, 2 wc's, 8 grand chelems,33 pole positions and the record for the biggest winning margin in f1 history, 4 mins 54 seconds on a rainy and foggy day at spa. All achieved in only 72 races, far less than schumi and senna had to achieve their records. Clark has 9 more fastest laps than senna, while racing in 91 less races.

Mansell proved himself against Piquet, Rosberg and Prost as team mates. Hamilton proved himself against Alonso and Button. Graham Hill proved himself against Jackie Stewart and Jim Clark. Lauda did beat Prost in 1984 when both were driving for McLaren. Schumacher had team mates like Brundle, Verstappen, Herbert, Irvine and Barrichello. How do they compare to champions who beat other champions in the same car? And from Austria 2002 we can learn that Barrichello wasn't allowed to challenge him..

I doubt staying at McL would have helped his record a lot. As much as I love Peugeot, they didn't achieve much in F1 and especially with McL (though maybe Senna would have influenced a decision towards the Lambo engines). Another disappointment in '94 like in '93 would have driven him again to leave McL. And if it wasn't for his death, F1 might not have become that secure. I doubt Ratzenberger's death would have brought that many changes. Still, I'd prefer an underachieving though living Ayrton.

Michael's best victories were in the rain, which was why he was also billed as the Rainmaster/Regenmeister. In Donnington 93, Schumacher would have finished ahead of Barrichello if it weren't for the Benetton breaking down and causing Michael to crash out. Michael's first victory in Spa was in changing conditions and Michael outdrove Mansell and Senna (who finished 5th). Schumacher has won more races in the wet than Barrichello had total number of victories.
