It's worth it to me for the paint job, which would be difficult to do from scratch. Thanks for watching!

Another nice review Dan,,,It still amazes me on how far model railroading has come, over the years.

Yes, even with a few flaws, models like this are light years ahead of some of the generic stuff they used to sell, some of which wasn't even really accurate as a generic model. Thanks for watching!

I always liked the Southern black paint scheme with the white stripe. I've cut back on doing reviews so no promises. I have to be a little more careful with my purchases these days, and save some budget for the layout, too. Thanks for watching!

Seems to include a bit more detail than the average R-T-R versions, and I believe the parts bag will dress up the tank (plumbing) more (or had you installed those?). And 21 pin plug, plus speaker box already included, is a plus (I add 5 pts for that). I think Athearn did a great job, EXCEPT for that nose seam. That's rather unfortunate :( I also want to thank you for naming the "popular online retailer" this time ;)
@DanielCortopassi

The nose seam is the biggest issue as far as fixing goes, and unfortunately it's been a problem on several recent Athearn SP releases. Maybe they need to re-tool that mold. I decided to just start naming the places where I bought the models because so many people ask anyway. Thanks for watching!

In addition to 7319, SP 7354 also had similar paint peeling as did a multitude of SP’s SD45T-2R’s. Still a nice model and I’m wanting to order one. Maybe after the consist build, we’ll see a series on improving 7319. Are you going to use a plug-n-play style decoder or a board style decoder?
@DanielCortopassi
5 жыл бұрын
I do want to do some work on this engine, so yes, maybe it could be a future video project. I haven't decided about the decoder yet, though I generally prefer to get rid of the factory light boards in most cases since they just take up space. A board style decoder would solve that problem. Thanks for watching!

It would be a pain to fix. I don't really see any good way to do it other than taking the model apart and sanding and repainting that piece. The only good thing is that in most of the photos I've seen of 7319, the nose is just gray and red with no peeling paint, so at least it's just a two-color job and not three. Thanks for watching!

well presented review. only thing i think you could of added was the photos you found of the real thing. you bring the fact up. so why not add 30 seconds to the video and show them. even side by side be good. looks like a model i would like to get. and can be used as a lease unit for a short line.
