I'm telling you, the Lord knows how to speak to me. I was just thinking about this subject this morning and was worried that because i haven't been baptized that i didn't have salvation. Now I have to say that I get several collages trying to recruit me. I tell them I am 57 years old. I have no reason to go back collage. Then I listen to Allen Nolan, and I am back in college again. But the best thing is it not your ordinary collage. It is a true collage, of the FATHER, the SON, and the HOLY SPIRIT. So, thank you Allen Nolan for bringing me back to college. I am learning Hebrew and Greek. I never thought I would ever have done in my life. So, I get down on my knees and say to GOD, thank you for all that you do. I understand. I was raised Catholic & honestly just following their practices left me empty. So one day in confession the priest ask me what were my sins. To which I answered.I don't know if I sinned which stopped him for a few brief moments. Then I answered with a question. I asked if he had a phone line in there with him to ask God if 1 our father ,& 2 hail Mary's was good enough for forgiving sins? Right then he was floored & told me to say the Act of Contrition. Well, I did but still didn't know what I had done wrong. Of course I realized I was blasfameaning the church. But I was a serious seeker & being Catholic just wasn't doing anything for me. I sought understanding period. I found it at 27 & I'm 74 now. I am still learning and this pastor has answered many questions I had an I am so happy to get these teachings. For me there are many times I can relate to those times like I was there. It is for me like a complete reality. This pastor is so dedicated to teaching God's word makes learning very satisfying. @@HarpsDad22 Awe, the sweet tension that we find in the scripture. Indeed, we love him because he first loved us. 1 John 4:19. For those who think they can continue to live in sin, as his enemies live, there is a warning in Hebrews 10 - "if we deliberately go on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no further sacrifice for sins remains, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume all adversaries. Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much more severely do you think one deserves to be punished who has trampled on the Son of God, profaned the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and insulted the Spirit of grace? For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine; I will repay,” and again, “The Lord will judge His people.”It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. Also remember this - Jesus said in Luke 6 "A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. So then, by their fruit you will recognize them. Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness!’ The bible teaches that our decisions matter to God, that He is looking at our hearts and that those who live in Him will not continue to live in sin. Will you trust Him to work this in your life? He is a Holy God, and He will sanctify his people. That mean He will change you into something different and the direction will be more and more like Christ. That is His work in us through the Holy Spirit. That is why the "works" will be evident in a person who is being saved. Jesus is Savior and Lord.

But what if you've already shown your faith outwardly through every form possible except water baptism? Vocal profession, sharing Scripture and teaching on it in person and social media, praying, reading and studying the Bible, going on fasts, understanding my gifts, and heeding to as many statutes of God's as possible, etc. I don't want to sound prideful and spiteful against water baptism, but I ALMOST hate it when people try to give a physical symbol more credit than it's worth, especially when speaking as if it's mandatory. I have not been water baptized, but I may in the future. Saying that, I do NOT feel convicted about not being water baptized. I have genuine faith and trust in the Lord my God that if I get raptured without ever having been dunked in water, I won't have a blemish or spot on me just as everybody else won't going into Heaven. It does NOT determine your "saved-ness". I would HOWEVER recommend getting baptized after being saved, as it is a good profession of faith and death to the old self. But that's for novices in the faith that need it. I'm far from my old self and I've learned very much.

@Blk05GTStang

The wording found in this verse is unfortunate for two reasons. First and foremost, the entire section of Mark 16:9-20 is not found in the earliest, most reliable manuscripts. Most Bible scholars do not think this was a part of the original, divinely-inspired writing of Mark's Gospel. Secondly, this passage is all-too-easily misinterpreted to imply that baptism is required for salvation. Logically, however, even if accepted as original to Mark, these words do not prove baptism is a requirement for eternal life. Other passages affirm that belief alone is necessary for salvation (John 3:18; 5:24; 12:44-50; 20:31; Romans 10:9; 1 John 5:13). Even the last half of this verse states that lack of belief is all that is necessary to not be saved.

Baptism is not a requirement for salvation, it's a response to salvation. When we are baptized, we are giving a public affirmation that we choose to follow Jesus. Baptism is for those who understand that while repentance is important, we can never be so good that we can earn salvation; it is performed after we are saved. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is what we receive at the moment of salvation. The Holy Spirit dwells within us permanently, marking us as saved by Christ (Mark 1:8; 1 Corinthians 12:12-13; Ephesians 1:13-14).

Scriptures on baptism- Mark 16:16 “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.” John 3:5-7 Acts 8:30-38 Acts 10:43-48 Acts 16:30-33 1 Peter 3:20-21 Hebrews 10:19-23 Titus 3:4-6 1 John 5: 6-8 Romans 6 Mark 16:16 is the foundation to salvation which is commanded by Christ. And Christ also said if you love me keep my commandments. Also baptism was told to the disciples to do so after HE(Jesus) resurrected to go to all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and teaching them to observe ALL THINGS he has commanded them. And there’s a reason why he told them this after he resurrected because now there is power in baptism (Romans 6). We are baptized into the Death of Christ and are resurrected like Christ we walk into the newness of life. So this is an act of obedience and showing your faith that by baptism you are born again. So we must do so. We are not saved by our righteousness but we are saved by the righteousness of Yahoshua Hamishiach. And faith without works is dead. Repentance and faith will produce obedience to the Lord’s commands and we must follow. We can’t used one of Paul’s writings to override what Christ said and even Paul spoke about the importance of baptism numerous times. We must study to show ourselves approved. So if you love Christ keep his commandments. Shalom 🙏🏽

Pastor Alan, I could not access response to your question. Scripture states: the books of the world could not contain all that Jesu did. The vast numbers Jesus Baptized in the desert wilderness, in villages, on streets, homes, prisons or hospitals… were not all submerged to this day. It was and is not a mandatory action for Baptism then and today. When it states “all were Baptized “, did it possibly include ALL present which includes the Disciples there at the time till all were? Most likely. So to say they were not is an inaccuracy. We can’t nor shouldn’t assume. Judas was the only one Jesus did not.

The problem is when we hear “Baptism” we automatically assume it means water baptism. It is not so, we are BAPTIZED BY ONE SPIRIT. If you do not have the Holy Spirit you do not belong to Christ, water baptism is important, but it’s the baptism of the Holy Spirit that matters where salvation is concerned. Paul even said ‘thank God I was NOT sent to baptize but to preach the good news. That means something. Concerning Baptism. I was raised in a United Pentecostal Church who baptized in the name of Jesus. I’m now in a non denominational Church that baptize in the name of the father, son and Holy Spirit. My question is this, we do everything in the name of Jesus, cast out demons, pray in the name of Jesus, heal in the name of Jesus etc. Why do you believe to do everything in Jesus except baptism? I understand Jesus said the words, baptize in the name of the father, son and Holy Spirit but every baptism after Jesus rose and ascended to heaven was done in the name of Jesus. The father, son and Holy Spirit are titles, the name of all those three is Jesus. I’m a father myself, I’m a son, I’m a Canadian Veteran, but my name is Hans. It’s just a confusing matter, one of many us Christians disagree on. I personally believe nothing, no other name is so powerful as the name of Jesus.

The biggest issue with Acts 2:38 for doctrine isn’t the “for” error but it has to do with Acts 1:5 and Acts 11:15-16. There is a 4-5 year window between those two passages and Peter himself acknowledges in Acts 11:15-16 that he didn’t understand what Jesus said in Acts 1:5 until he witnessed the salvation of Cornelius. Indeed, baptism is a key part of our salvation but it’s NOT John’s baptism in water, it’s the Spirit baptism.

Important to note that the disciples were able to physically spend time with Jesus. Can you imagine that? I think it is sweet that God gave us these things to do, such as water baptism, and remembering him with bread and the fruit of the vine, as we wait for His return. It's extremely likely that the disciples were baptized by Jesus before they, in turn, went on to baptize others. The Bible doesn't speak on their conversion either, yet we know we all must be born again, so we need to be careful about saying these things didn't happen to them.

Several times I felt the need to be baptized again in hopes I could know beyond a doubt that I was truly saved. I had never heard of the sinners prayer and when I was 32 years old it was being said on a Christian program and I realized I had never asked Jesus into my heart, and repeated it. The next day, I went running and leaping through my house as the Holy Spirit witnessed with my spirit that I was His. But, I still lived much of my life struggling to earn Gods favor, because I didn’t understand the concept of being IN CHRIST. Translated from the first Adam into the second Adam, and inheriting Christs divine nature and becoming a completely new creature in Christ. We inherited Adams nature when we were born into this world, but we’ve never comprehended that the new birth is about inheriting a new nature , the very nature of our risen Lord. Once you see it, you can’t unsee it, but the enemy will fight you tooth and nail to keep you blinded to this truth. I think this is where we fall short while disciplining new converts. The Holy Spirit helped me to see this truth one day in my swimming pool. I felt led to baptize myself and as I did, I found myself wanting to stay buried, so to speak, under the water instead of immediately coming up like traditional baptism services. It’s then, He showed me a very important truth. We do not adequately teach new or old converts, that we DIED WITH CHRIST. Jesus was in the tomb 3 days and 3 nights and we are missing an important truth in conveying this to believers. Sometimes it takes a bit longer for some to come out of that tomb than others, but come out, we will, clothed in His righteousness alone, faultless to stand before His Throne! We put off the old man and are clothed with the New Man, created in true holiness and righteousness and clothed with His Divine Nature. We become One Spirit the Lord. 1 Cor. 6:17. Could there possibly be an important lesson that we are all missing, the importance of staying in the tomb long enough to see that our relationship with Adam has been completely severed by the circumcision of Christ, by putting off the body of the flesh and putting on the new man of the Spirit. We have just died to our old nature and put on a new nature, and if baptism can play an important role in helping converts see this marvelous truth, of putting off the old and putting on the new, should we forbid or withhold the water as the visual some might need in order to embrace this truth? Sometimes we miss the truth of what we’re being shown in the Word because we all tend to gravitate to our corners and come out fighting for whatever position we hold near and dear to us. Is it possible for the Truth to be starring us in the face and never actually seeing it?

@@johnhoffman8203being dunked in water in a holy way does not change status of salvation. We are saved by grace and we have been baptized in the Holy Ghost fire. That's New Testament baptism.

If baptism is required for salvation and the thief was baptized before being crucified then this important fact would have been stated in the Scriptures. Also, being saved is a spiritual act, baptism is a physical act. No physical act is required for salvation.

I'll take being baptized in the Holy Ghost over water. If you still want to, go do it. That may be the profession of faith that you need.

Pastor Nolan, the disciples did not receive the Holy Spirit until the day of Pentecost. When Jesus said, “receive the Holy Spirit” in (John 20:22) he was just letting them know that they will receive the Holy Spirit. As well we have to remember that Thomas was not present, so did Thomas not receive the Holy Spirit? Thats why Jesus said, in Luke 1:1-4 "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift the Father promised, which you have (heard Me discuss.) For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit”. Was there another time Jesus (discussed) with them about receiving the Holy Spirit other than in John 20? Everyone who got baptized by the Holy Spirit in the book of Acts as well spoke in tongues when baptized by the Spirit. Lastly if baptismal is not important, why would Peter command them to be baptized, as he commanded the household of Cornelius. Why did he command, if water baptismal wasn’t necessary? As well our Lord commanded us to Baptize all the new believers, it was not a choice! Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Great questions that raise good points to ponder. This is why we must put all scripture together for our teaching and guidance. Baptism is not an option, it is a part of our Salvation Walk, so is repentance and living faithfully until death. These are all acts of Faith and are not a choice. We must hear the Word of God, Believe the Word, Repent, Confess, Be Baptized and live faithfully until death. We are also supposed to Spread the Gospel so others can be saved. I’m not sure why this is a debate because it so clearly laid out in scripture in so many various accounts.

2 Timothy 2:15 says study to make yourself approved of God rightly dividing, the word please learn to rightly divine. Paul which is the apostle to the Gentiles, says he wasn’t sent to baptize and didn’t seem to be proud of the fact that he baptized a few. Paul says we’re saved by faith and not by words. Baptism is a work and not for the Gentiles

That is funny and I am not sure about that. But I will tell you this, as Christian. No matter of your sin, you have to ask for forgiveness. But first and foremost, you have to believe in our LORD and SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST. Because without that, nothing else matters.

With much respect I disagree. There are certainly more scriptures in the Word of God than 2 that prove Baptism is absolutely a necessary commandment from Jesus Christ’s mouth, Peter and Paul to start. Here are a few that the nail seals it for me: Romans Chapter 6 and Colossians 2:8-13 and Definitely this critical verse from 1 Peter 3 ”who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water. There is also an antitype which now saves us-baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,“ I Peter 3:20-21 NKJV

Pastor Nolan, it doesn't matter whether you believe baptism is a sacrament or not, for we are commanded to be baptized or else you and I will not inherit the kingdom of God, period! Nicodemus, was a Pharisee, but he perceived that Jesus could tell him the way to the kingdom of God, and this is the responds he got from Jesus, "Nicodemus, verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit". John 3:5-6. You cannot be a born again Christian without been baptized and this is the only ground where you kick start your transformation from fresh to the spirit. Consider, verse 6: "that which is born of the flesh is flesh and that which is born of the spirit is spirit". Baptism is the beginning of your transformation from the family of first Adam (the one that was in the garden of Eden) to the family of second Adam (which is Jesus Christ the son of God). You don't want to remain in the family of first Adam which is the family of the dead, that is why you need to be converted to that of Jesus Christ the son of God. For it is written, Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither do corruption inherit incorruption. 1corinth. 15:50 Jesus said, it is the spirit that quickeneth the flesh profiteth nothing. John 6:63.

Jesus said to the man on the cross next to him "today you will be with me in paradise". (Luke Chapter 23 Verse 43). Had this man been water baptized??? Water baptism happens because someone has been saved. Water baptism doesn't save. The recent coronation happened because Charles is now the King. The coronation didn't make Charles the King. Charles became the King when his mother - Queen Elizabeth the Second - died. A coronation for William or George would be nonsense as neither of them are King.
