I had the incredible experience of creating a component for Project Egress through my work at Fab Lab Houston. Project Egress is a unique collaborative project between the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum, Adam Savage, Tested.com, and makers from across the country to construct a life-size replica of the Apollo 11 command module hatch to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11.
I was tasked with making part #12, the bottom middle bell crank assembly. I made this component out of walnut using VCarve and a ShopBot at Fab Lab Houston. In the video I’ll show how I created my piece.
I had a great time traveling to D.C. this past week and watching Adam and his team construct the life-size hatch replica live at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum and seeing the completed hatch up close on exhibit at the museum.
