These grow like weeds in my yard here in central valley of California. They actually propagate themselves and I just dig them up and transplant and they do great. They sort of spread like weeds (though I really like them) and although they can't take the very hot late summer direct sun/heat here in my area they grow very fast and spread fast throughout the spring and summer. I'm not sure how they propagate so prolifically in my yard naturally but they do spread quickly and I find them growing nearby my parent plants - presumably they seed and spread naturally. I may try to propagate by cuttings now that I've seen your video!

Ah same here! It's hard to get around to everybody. Not all of my propagations have worked out. I always try to get a node now and then I just try to keep an eye on the cutting. If it's not doing well, I move it to moss. The variegated Fatsia didn't have a very obvious place to cut(unlike the non variegated) so I'm really hoping it takes. It might not though, and that's not the end of the world 💁Thanks so much for watching and commenting 💚

Hello Miss Bird. Great content thanks! You are an expert for us! I have a spider web in my living room. But the leaves in the lower part are falling (Way faster than the new leaves are growing). The leaves start to have black spot and then the spots get bigger, and, finally the leaves dry and fall by themselves. So, could you or someone tell me what is the problem? I am thinking to propagate it in order to save my plant. Do you know if from one stem I can cut multiple sections? Other question: How is doing your mother plants? Did she survives the stem cutting? Did the new sproutes come from the center of the stem? Thanks a lot for your contribution :)

Hi, I'm very new to plants and don't seem to be very good at it haha. I have a Fatsia as my first plant and everything was great. I had new shoots coming up in the soil so I decided to repot him and ever since then his leaves were going brown from the centre of the leaves, I then found that they were just breaking off. I now have 3 leaves right on the top and none on the stem. I've scratched the main stem and that is still green but the other stem next to it has now gone brown and feels rotten.....I don't know what I've done 🙈 Is there a certain type of compost I should be using, I'm thinking maybe I need to report it but get rid of the dead stem and hope for the best. I have tried to google but keep getting conflicted information and no-one seems to be able to give me any advice on what I should be doing to save him....He looks so bare now! Any advice would be very much appreciated! Lauren

Miss Bird The only reason why I don’t use the moss anymore is because I heard it starts to mold or go bad. And then I watch other videos that say that Coco choir never goes bad and you could reuse it over and over again. That’s the only reason why I got rid of the mass but I like yours because it’s different than just the fine grated kind. Yours is really nice fluffy and chunky the other type I don’t like...🤷♀️

I was wondering if you could help! I bought this plant 3/4 weeks ago and it’s got root rot (not something I’ve got experience with). The roots are so tiny and I’ve managed to removed the bad ones, but what do I do next? Do I put it in water to help is establish roots again? Although the roots seem an okay length, or do I put it in new soil? Thanks!
@SarahBird
4 жыл бұрын
Hey Abi, I would probably put it in new soil. I would be worried that the water might shock it, being a whole plant. It’s so annoying to buy a plant with root rot, I’ve been there many times. I hope it’ll recover 💚

@@AbiBloomUK I had a similar problem with mine, but it looked more like a stemrotting thing.In the end the only thing I could do was cut the noninfected parts off to propagate them (they are in water now and one already has a root but the other one is just really stubborn and not rooting at all). Anyway they are healthy and look well, so I hope it wasn't all for nothing, though for one of the stems it was too late and it was already too advanced to propagate, so I guess choosing the right time is essential :/

Are you propping in water? This has happened to me before, not with fatsia but other plants. Sometimes the leaves die but the node will carry on growing roots and eventually pop out a new leaf. Other times, I think the plant is too shocked to recover 🙁if you're water propping, sometimes I change the water to rainwater if it seems like the plant is having a hard time.
