I'm a lease operator with a company that I get 70% of loads that I BOOK MYSELF. On different load boards do pretty good bidding and getting good rates and I have control where I go and what type of loads I get. Gotta know where the hot lanes are so you can get loads at the best rates without killing yourself driving long distances because of the percentage pay. IMO percentage is way better than mileage especially if booking your own freight.

Hey there, I didn't ask yet, but you did aswer my question. In the Netherlands, compagny drivers are all payed by the hour. I am a owner-operator, doing gross loads in containers. And i'm happy with it. But.. honnest? It works to max 500 miles. Perfect for owner-operator would be: Till 50 miles, pay by hour. 50 Till 500 miles payed grosse. 500 plus, payed per mile. Greetz from the Netherlands

I’ve never seen a company with lease purchase option that they pay your plates, permits, insurance, etc.. Everything I’ve looked into so far both mileage pay and percentage pay the driver has to cover all expenses. I’ve only seen some companies that will pay reefer fuel and scales.. a few have toll reimbursement.

I would think that what you are hauling would make the difference. If you are a van hauler or you pick up containers from ports, maybe hourly would be the best bet. That way if you just sitting at a dock, you're getting paid. And if you are driving 60-70 hours a week that overtime will do you well if you are otr. If you're a flatbed driver, maybe % is the best option. The biggest thing about % is how many people have their fingers in the pie and honesty, maybe there should be a transparency on what the manufacturer is paying the broker and what they are paying you. Idk I am ignorant about this stuff, but maybe brokers seem to be a middleman that a modern world and an internet may not need anymore no?

I have almost started a job with a carrier near me but after asking a few questions I found out that wait time is not paid, Pre and post trip inspections are not paid, they use PC Miler to determine your miles not odometer, There is no in truck GPS only dispatcher, if you have to chain tires in winter not paid, wait time is not paid. I am super close to just apssing on this company but getting seat time is hard when your new. Any advice?. OH ya and a 3 month probation period...Perhaps I am so new that this is normal but it seems alot of doing stuff on my own time.
