What's your take on the pulse versus the PS Platinum ones? I own the platinum headphones... And they are premium. I find it hard to justify buying the pulse 3d. I can't find much information said whether the headphones work well with the PSVR2. I don't see an issue..

Audio ❤️ Great video! For me the only option is detachable earphones. I've been using Bionik Mantis just for the convenience (with both psvr 1 and 2). I really dislike the idea of separate headphones, I want things simple. The sound quality is ok, they just lack a bit of bass. I'm a musician and sometimes a sound engineer, but when gaming this is a compromise I'm willing to take.

Hey gamecat Nibble, thanks for the tip on using the Mantis headphones on PS VR2. I have these for the original headset and didn't realise they were compatible with the new one too. I agree that they are a compromise, but I find them very handy when I need to have awareness to the real world. Besides, if I need that extra bass, I have speakers connected to my TV output. (I believe our dude Bryan Paul detests these for their flimsy construction too, and indeed I did add a little superglue to my own set haha)

Audio ❤… All great points. I think Sony had a tough call when deciding to go with the supplied in-ear buds. As someone that gets warm easily when wearing the PSVR2 headset, adding another over the head/ear headset can make playing sessions even more uncomfortable and leaving me in a swampy/sweaty mess. The in-ear buds while not the best in sound, do have the advantage being light and not feeling bogged down by a more weighty headset. So for me and anyone else who tends to run hot during intense gaming on the PSVR2 , I have to sacrifice better sound for comfort. I am still contemplating checking out the pulse 3D set as they seem to be the next best choice for my needs.

Audio ❤ I was skeptical about the Sony headphones as I had paid more than *double* the price for what I'd call a terrible two headsets on the PS3 & PS4 production-wise; the sound, battery & microphones were great, but the products essentially fell apart. For $200+ each, it really bugged me. The biggest outlying reason I even considered the official PS5 headset was the price. I am blown away by the value & the longevity to-date. Huge step forward, IMO.

I've had my Steelseries Arctis Pro Wireless for almost 3 years now and I honestly cannot imagine life without them. Working from home and then gaming after, I will have these things on my head for 12 hours or so. They are super comfortable (I did change out the ear pads) and the functionality is fantastic. I can have my phone linked to them at the same time I am using them for gaming. If a call comes in I can accept the call from the headset and it will automatically lower the volume from the PC so it does not drown out the phone call. It is a bit on the expensive side but I feel it is absolutely worth it. If my headset died right now I wouldn't even shop around. I'd just buy another Arctis Pro Wireless.

Audio ❤ I strongly disagree with the comment you make in the video that if you're already wearing a headset, it's not much worse to wear a second one on top of it. That is the opposite of reality. The ergonomics of wearing a headset on top of another headset are terrible. The two headsets can be comfortable on their own, but when you try to layer them over each other several significant problems come into play. The first is that they will physically interfere with each other which will prevent either of them from fitting properly. Even the Pulse which is ostensibly designed to work with the PSVR2 still interferes a little, and that immediately compromises comfort. With 3rd party headphones, this is worse. And how are you to know how 3rd party headphones will work with the PSVR2? They are products which are not designed to work together. So even if you can find 3rd party headphones that work without interfering too badly, it's inherently hacky. Customers are on their own for finding headphones that will fit at all. If you can get past those issues, there is another inherent issue to non-built-in audio on a VR headset. Taking the headset off immediately becomes an awkward multistep process. Do you have an itch? Do you need to lift up the headset for a moment to scratch underneath it? Well, you simply can't do that. You're going to have to take the headphones off first, and then put them somewhere or figure out how to awkwardly hold them somehow while having controllers in your hands, too, while you work with the VR headset next. And if there's a cable between them, then that will limit your options while also being its own problem. It's all very awkward, and what it will do is cause you to avoid doing it as much as possible. You'll just live with that itch rather than scratching it (or whatever of the various other reasons to need to lift up the headset for a moment). I think it's nuts that VR headset manufacturers will expect customers to do this. Sure, the hardcore VR customers that are willing to put up with hackiness will put up with it. And hardcore audiophiles may even prefer it since sound quality matters more to them than literal pain. But Sony's included audio solution for the PSVR2 is subpar. The only saving grace is that the Pulse headphones seem to have been designed for it which mitigates the drawbacks of headset-over-headset to a degree. But really consider how much better it would be if the Pulse headphones were built into the PSVR2. It wasn't worth shaving $25-50 off the price of the VR headset. Yes, people already complain about the PSVR2 being too expensive as it is, but VR manufacturers need to stop doing this.

Personally, I don't care for noise-blocking audio solutions, since I have a situation where I need to be aware of people trying to call me - and I don't really like the idea of totally blocking out my two most important sensory inputs. Big headphones also feel clunky to me, while ear buds can get messy. Hopefully a third party will come up with a Reverb/Index style off-ear audio solution. It's some of the best in class, and by looking up spare parts - the whole assembly comes included. You could probably 3D print a mount/clip and then connect the PSVR's audio bracket wiring directly to the leads.

Whenever i try and use headphones for PSVR1 and now PSVR2, they wind up easily shifting whenever i move my head downwards or upwards. It makes for a sloppy cumbersome experience. Ideally, a 7.1 surround sound system would be the way to fly, if that's even possible. But I've gone back to the stock ear buds, just because it makes for a more breathable, cooler experience vs feeling like you're trapped in some weird head oven contraption. :P I was hoping Sony's latest Pulse explore planer magnetic ear buds would be compatible with PSVR2, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

@SargonDragon
Жыл бұрын
The difference is night and day. The sound quality of the ear buds is, in my opinion, unacceptable. In particular, they have zero bass reproduction. The visuals on the PSVR2 are good, but the ear buds are so bad that it's immersion breaking. I consider getting the Pulse along with the PSVR2 to be a requirement. They're not as good as studio monitors, but they're good. Wearing other headphones over the PSVR2 is generally impractical because the bands will interfere with each other. Sure you can probably get other headphones to fit somehow, but they won't fit properly and that really sucks. So the Pulse is kind of the only real option.

Basically, use the damn headphones that were designed for the system. That’s what I got from this, did not need to be 13 minutes long. Do you want comfort, something light, something compatible and that has good 3D audio? Literally the Pulse 3D Sony designed for the VR headset. Who would’ve thought the headphones designed for the VR headset in question would be the best?

Best comfort is neither of anything mentioned but a wireless TWS. No wire light and literally forget about them once in ear. And I already have one that is on its way. No comment about the Audio technica other than the additional wire. Pulse sounds trash to me and no I do not feel it sound better than other 100 headphone. If you EQ it, it might sound a little better than the stock sound but still sound bad. Steelseries is rubbish imo too. Those guys do not know what is truly good audio. A side note, there is no such thing as a "gaming headset". For me time being I use beoplay portal. Not only sound better than anything mentioned in this video, but it is also almost perfect fit with PSVR2. But personally if I have a choice I rather not wear 2 things on my head. So wireless TWS is the way to go for best balance
