I had a similar experience to your wife when I bought PSVR1 years ago, thing is I was interested in VR so I kept coming back and took baby steps with it. I knew certain apps made me sick right away and other apps I can last maybe 10 minutes. something like Job simulator where you are just standing in one spot is great for VR sensitive people. I avoided the apps that instantly made me sick and just stuck with the more tolerable ones. After some time I was able do the easier ones for 30+ minutes, and every now and then I would attempt the harder ones for maybe a few minutes. I kept going back and forth over time. Resident Evil 7 is one that got me sick right away, but after a few months I was able to do a 3 hour session with it and feel fine right after. And like you said take plenty of breaks, don't push yourself.

I'm really impressed with PSVR2, it is amazing what Sony have created, and it is running on a console, has eye tracking, foveated rendering and works for people with a very large IPD (up to 75mm). I have over 800 hours in PC VR, been into VR for 6 years. I've had five VR headsets, Vive, Vive Pro, HP Reverb G2 (this lives in a box because Windows Mixed Reality is rubbish and the max IPD is too small for me), Vive Pro 2 (returned because the max IPD was too small, they down graded from the old headsets which had 74mm, down too 70mm), and I currently have a Pimax 8KX.

The difference is that for example quest 2 has the Foveated Rendering locked in place, so the middle of the screen will be really sharp and the edges always blurry. On psvr2 the Foveated Rendering is locked on your eyes therefore always rendering the sharpest on what you are looking at.

Regarding just including 1 charging cord for the controllers, it actually makes quite a lot of sense just giving you one. Generally with people who are new to VR I recommend games where you aren't really moving around. From the PSVR 2 launch lineup, I'd highly recommend Moss 1 and 2, as well as Puzzling Places (which has a free demo), Tetris Effect Connected, and Tentacular. And for yourself, there are some other great games to try out. There are demos available for Resident Evil Village (if you're into horror games), Star Wars Tales from the Galaxy's Edge, Song in the Smoke Rekindled, and Puzzling Places like I mentioned before. It's worth trying games in VR even if you normally wouldn't be into them, as VR can make some games much more appealing. Great job with the video!

Yes! This was exactly my experience. I was disappointed initially because the screen door effect is pretty obvious in cinematic mode, and can be still noticable in vr, which I assume is the blur everyone is talking about. Sony must have blasted out a damage control email to a bunch of youtubers because most of them made a `how to fix a blurry headset' video in the last 24 hours. the sweet spot takes a while to dial in. climbing can be tedious in horizon. I hope most of the psvr 1 games get ported to the psvr 2 as there were quite a few good ones. If you $750 buring a hole in your pocket buy it with a few games, otherwise I would say wait.

Also a thought on the issue with your wife playing PSVR2... I know that you go through the steps of the IPD calculation and determining the sweet spot of the Fresnel lenses as a start up process. Is it possible you gave it to her without reconfiguring it for her head? It may explain some of the disorientation on the headset and maybe some blurriness too. You should be able to go to the PSVR2 activity card to reconfigure the IPD as needed.

Bro, do this and decide for yourself. Search on KZitem for resident evil village vr quest 2 through the lens and Ben though it’s a recording through the lens, you’ll still see that the game looks fantastic. Totally clear and great image. Same game in psvr2 looks like absolute shit. And yes, I own psvr2 but seriously, it kinda sucks. Oh and because of Sony cheating, your more likely to get motion sickness from psvr2. Simply a few bad practice. 1 not native 90 or 120 FPS. Sony do 60 and reprojection to make it seem like 120 FPS and they use high persistence. This with reprojection, gives really blurry image and nasty Mura effect. This is where it looks like the screen is covered in dirt. And literally induces heavy motion sickness and that’s a FACT. The thing is, Ps5 is NOT powerful enough to run graphically intense games at 120fps. If it was, Sony would do so and we wouldn’t have nasty blur and motion sickness. Oh and Sony believe that having Oled screen for deep blacks, is worth all the crap that detracts from experience. If you know someone with a psvr2, ask to try demo of call of mountain and I bet you’ll instantly feel sick. Why? It’s not native 120. It’s 60 and reprojected to fake a 120 FPS but like I keep saying, this makes image super blurry and makes you feel sick as hell, unless you already have 100s of hours in vr. I am getting some fun from psvr2 but I just hate the horrible blurry pic. Hate the dirty Mura effect that makes it look like I’m looking through a dirty window and yeh, Sony let us down.

@@NerdNest I've tried that … no joy. I find it kind of disappointing that Sony would release a $550 accessory with problems like this … it's not something that would've gone unnoticed, after all. @@GreyMatterShades Sony probably just wanted to shove VR2 out the door and was willing to take their lumps and fix the problems in public post-release - with Occulus 3 on the way and the Apple headset coming sometime soon, they probably just wanted to get 'em out the door while the tech was still hot and get as many units sold as soon as they could. Their market is already restricted to PS5 owners which is _not_ a ginormous population pool, and they are probably growing compound ulcers thinking about selling a headset for as much as the console. Betcha they use the accelerometers just to determine controller orientation and don't have a software stack sufficiently sophisticated to do inertial tracking. They probably just use the cameras to track the controllers since that would be a much easier and more reliable computational task.
@GreyMatterShades
Жыл бұрын
@@vernearase3044 I doubt Sony would just shove PSVR 2 out the door with known issues. That's not typically how they launch hardware, and it gives the headset a bad look. I agree though that some of these bugs are pretty inexcusable even for launch hardware. I wonder if the pandemic affected how much they were able to test the headset in real-world situations. Numerous people have tested the controller tracking out of view of the cameras, and they are tracked without being in view, but eventually have drift and other issues common to inside-out tracked headsets under similar circumstances. Sony started prototyping PSVR 2 back in 2016. I don't think they'd launch it without any sort of inertial tracking. I love my PSVR2, & I loved my PSVR1, I'm just sincerely stunned how little content is available for PSVR2; I know it was never supposed to be backwards-compatible, but even the cross-platform games from a vast (& expensive) PSVR library simply aren't here at launch, especially the "show off" kind of experiences. The first-party experiences, too, were numerous & often world-class, like Blood & Truth or Astrobot, a built-in game for the original PSVR. The sheer volume of missing content at launch is legitimately shocking; if it was backwards-compatible, for example, I'd be emphatically recommending it to many people I know. For now, I think waiting for the software to catch up is an unfortunately necessary step. Personally it's worth it almost exclusively for Gran Turismo 7, which is simply brilliant & tested online last night for 5 hours straight (albeit with missing features such as best-lap data being locked out when in VR mode).

@@xuimod to be honest, because it's not brand new, and the catalog for PSVR was vast, an absolute outlier in VR. Another reason is VR (including with the PSVR 1) has multiple platforms, now more than ever; PSVR2 is also similar design-wise with other ubiquitous headsets, much more so than the original. Finally, the library was arguably the biggest strength of the PSVR1, notably first-party. It wasn't the fastest or most robust VR in the market, but the support for software, demo "discs", and the nature of VR no longer being new (ex, there's a lot of content for any other VR headset at launch simply by nature), it's absolutely a sincere surprise.

Im happy you are enjoying psvr2. Im about to start playing mine tonight. GT7 is considered a bit rough for new vr gamers, I do not recommend people that do not have vr experience to try that one until you're more comfortable in vr. I think RE8 is also like that. When beat saber comes out i would recommend your wife try that, its fun, simple, light for vr new-comers and it can be a mild exercise depending on skill level. As far as games im excited to try horizon, GT7, Re8, and Song in the Smoke. Btw there are demos for all of these but gt7 if anyone is interested.

A big reason you will get more sick in gt7 or horizon is because it’s running at 60fps and using reproduction to get to 120hz. If they were natively running at 120hz, they would be far less nauseating.

As a PCVR gamer who has been watching your Steam Deck coverage, my game suggestions for you are Moss and Gorn. Moss is a puzzle platformer with a very cute mouse protagonist. The combination of the style and just how good the game is has many people who never play puzzle games say that they love it, and I suspect Quill (the mouse) will win you over easily. Gorn is an arena brawler with cartoon graphics and extreme (yet cartoonish) violence. It has a "pick it up and play a quick game without it trying to make you play hundreds of hours" vibe that I think you'll enjoy.

Get yourself a used Logitech wheel. They cost next to nothing and get the job done just fine. Logitech G29 or G923 is what you're looking for when it comes to used wheels for very little money. They're built quite well, and the wheel itself is leather, so it stays nice for a long time.

Nothing made it bearable. We might be rare cases but even if we're only 1% psvr2 is dead in the water as far as the mass adoption everyone was hoping for before launch. Reviewers who all say this thing is crystal clear hdr at 4K blah blah are lying. It’s a really amazing experience but it’s not anything compared, visually, to a television. The image has a slight blur to it (almost like you need glasses. I wear contacts), and when you are moving around quickly, images have a blurring/ghosting effect. No matter how many times you redo the setup, it stays this way. Manage your expectations. This headset, while immersive and an amazing experience doesn’t look that great. VR is just not there yet.

@@NerdNest I’ve never experienced VR before. Almost all of these reviewers make their living by testing and reviewing these products. To say that it’s a crisp and clear image from someone with experience as opposed to myself, who has none, and I can say it is far from crisp and clear, says they are lying. It’s plain as day. The image is fuzzy and nowhere near what even a mediocre hd tv can display.

Psvr2 is good but it's not as good as my pc with a 3060 in it with a quest 2. I don't get any of that mad reprojection or mura going on. That said I've had a good time playing psvr2 still.
@kybercrow

Mura is mura (a fair tradeoff in my view for beautiful OLED HDR) but reprojection has nothing to do with the headset-that's a software choice. I suspect devs will start to offer 60fps at native res for those of us who can stomach a lower frame rate. Firewall sequel releases later this year: UE5 and 60fps at native resolution. I think it'll be a really good showcase for the headset. The tech is amazing, so it just comes down to the games.

I wish i could say i want to buy a PSVR2 headset as I love the whole idea of VR However until Playstation can show that what happened to the PSVR1 is not going to be the same downfall of the second iteration I will be holding off. That problem is the sheer lack of quality VR titles. Outside of beat saber I really couldnt name another PSVR title that did well.. There is so much potential to put a good FPS or an amazing new RPG or MMORPG on VR yet I waited and waited for a decent title and it never happened and now here we are.
@CarrotSurvivor

Bro, you have no idea about anything to do with how amazing some of these games are. Pavlov for example is A really fun shooter game, I have played like 30 hours so far on my PSVR 2. So many fun game modes like “infection” and “hunt” (survivors vs semi-invisible alien who you can also play as, with knifes as hands) and overall Pavlov is the most fun I’ve had gaming because the social interactions are hilarious and it just feels so amazing to play. Then there is pistol whip, resident evil village which is goddamn amazing in the psvr2. I can go on and on, what you think of as AAA games doesn’t apply to VR. Games need to be made for VR and even dames that seem simple are 10x more fun than any AAA game I’ve played
