I really enjoyed your video, I’ve recently inquired a 1983 Chevy C10 And Love It I Was Checking All The Fluid’s And Noticed When I Pulled The Plug On The Transfer Case “top” to check the level, red transmission fluid gushed out “A LOT” before it could get the plug back in 😳🤔. So I check the transmission “ pulled the dip stick “ fluid barley touching the dip stick. My question is is the seal in the transmission that’s bad or is it in the transfer case
@TheLugnut
2 жыл бұрын
I would take the tcase level down. And top up the transmission and take it for a drive and then re check. They are not ment to share fluid. There is a seal between the two of them.

Great video, thank you. My 84 F250 with NP208f is grinding while driving, downshifting in all gears. Def in the TC, is that a shift fork issue?
@TheLugnut
2 жыл бұрын
If it's a constant grind while driving that changes pitch with speed then I would say is a bearing issue. If it's coming out of 4wd and really hard to get to shift into it. Then likely shift fork issue. Either way the fix would be an overhaul.

I used a dakota digital speed sensor. It wired in to the ECU on the speed input. www.dakotadigital.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=57/category_id=311/mode=prod/prd57.htm part number 4160.

Are you still running the factory speedo? If you are and simply require a speedo pulse then this is all you need to have a working factory speedo and a pulse for the ecu. You will have to do a calibration for tire size and your final dive ratio. But thats no to bad to do.

Question about your ecu. Who unlocked it? When they did did they ask final drive ratio and tire size? If your doing it yourself what program are you doing it with? If it happens to be HP tuners you can send it to me and I can look it over and see if I can spot the issue. The sensor literally wires directly into your ecu. From memory it is ment to have 8k pulses per mile.

Put a mark on each of the 3 shafts. Turn the input shaft a full revolution and watch the front and rear output and if they all rotate a full turn then your on 4 high. If they do not turn the full amount then you in low range. And if the front output is not coupled to the rear OP shaft then you are in 2wd.

@@TheLugnut what porpoise does it serve? Keep engine, trans, and trans case solid as one piece. I’m deciding if I make one of those or just add a support for the trans case at the frame right at the trans case
@TheLugnut
2 жыл бұрын
@@Keeterbob I believe it is to transfer the torque induced on the case from driving the front differential. I have seen people run without it. I have also seen people with broken T-case housings that were not running it. Similar to how there are torque struts running from the bottom of a 700r4 lower bell housing cover to the engine mounts. The rotational force needs to go somewhere.

The Lugnut cross member bolts
@TheLugnut
4 жыл бұрын
@@chrismooney5737 I thought so but figured I would make sure first. Typically they would have spacers, my 87 had them between the frame and the cross member. My 80 the cross member was flush to the frame and the spacers were there but they were between the nuts and the cross member. My 85 featured in the videos had no spacers and shorter bolts. Seeing as I had no driveline vibration issues I simply put it back how it was. I am willing to bet that originally my 85 had them but someone swapped them out for shorter bolts.
