13:40 KSI/K-Sports International also seems to have partaken in similarly dubious meddling of the Arsenal Stamp when it came to their partnership with NORINCO for their Parka Paras. I found pics with the /26\ being made really crudely and asymmetrically along with the 五六式 being hilariously forged. Kind of how I used to fake my mom’s signature on report cards back in the 6th grade. (Factory Bear here btw)

Great video. I’ve got a 1964 Public Security SKS a blade bayonet that I got at a gun show in 2007. I just bought it because I wanted an SKS and didn’t realize there was anything unique about the extra characters on the right side of the receiver until I got it home and started browsing the internet. Back then one of the stories was that the “Public Security” organization the rifles were used by was like an elite “Chinese Gestapo” equivalent or something but even back then that seemed pretty sensationalized. A Chinese online acquaintance translated the characters for me as “Gong An” of course but then added that it was an “older fashioned term” for police, I guess kinda like calling a cop a “constable” or something maybe. So I kinda figured maybe the rifles had been in the armory of some rural gendarmerie force or something

In my opinion the /26\ Public Security marked rifles like yours are the most desirable. I have seen the fewest of them by far. And as you point out, whatever else they may or may not be, they are still a beautiful example of early 60’s manufacture.

It would seem that if an early U.S. importer only imported a few hundred sks examples back in the seventies or eighties, and then went out of business, that any sks with that import stamp on the rifle would collect a premium, if only for its rarity. Would the rifle be any better? No. Would it be any more collectible? Most likely yes, simply for the rare mark. That would seem to be applicable to these "rare" sks rifles as well. Great video, and so glad to see you back after your absence!

Firstly, I'm glad to learn that you're doing better. On a previous vid, I noted in a follow-up email to you that I was fortunate to have two M21s, one early and one late model. Now, you've done it again! Time to pull out my (Edit: five) Kengs Public Security 'variants' for another look-see ---> It never occurred to me to compare their GA stamp fonts, or associating sernos with YOM on these non-/26\, presumably for-export, for-commercial sales, non-military production, for the US civilian market only rifles. 😂 Seriously, BRAVO ZULU for covering this, let's just say "distinctive" SKS.
@Triangle26

Thanks for watching as always friend. I didn’t realize you have four - that’s excellent. I’d be very curious what you observe. One thing I am second guessing is how many import mark styles there are. In the video I claim there are three. I call them “large type”, “small type - clean”, and “small type - rough”. Later however I have wondered if the distinction between the small types is actually real. I made that conclusion based on some fairly low resolution photos that seemed to show distinctly different marking styles, but I could be wrong.

Glad your getting better. Public Security SKS's rifles prices are always marked up by the dealer like its a Russian or Albanian SKS. I never seen one with a blade bayonet always a spike so I think a majority of them are spike bayonet equipped. The variation of the marking may be due how to the word Public Security is spoken or written in a particular region of China. The Chinese language is very old and how phrases are written or said can vary from region to region.
@Triangle26

That’s an insightful observation. I often wonder how much about these rifles I miss because I know literally nothing about the Chinese language(s). Thank you! Much like the “Public Security” rifles, the “DP” and “DB” marked rifles are very much a mystery still. @Triangle26

Thanks friend. On paper, I would say the 191 is a very prudently designed weapon that makes a lot of sense for the current Chinese military. It’s not particularly ambitious or innovative, but instead seems to simply combine some of the most desirable qualities of other proven weapons. That said, I might have said the same thing about the AK-12 at a certain point, and we all know how that turned out. So the big questions remain: Did the Chinese give it adequate R&D time, and are they manufacturing it correctly? Are the Chinese going to be able to manage the logistics of issuing these with their intended enablers? Or is it going to be iron sights and a lot of empty rail space for most Chinese soldiers? Honestly, I could see it going either way on both counts. Hopefully we don’t find out anytime soon.

Thanks for watching and commenting! I’ll probably do a video on 416 at some point, it is arguably the second most significant Chinese factory behind 296 (Triangle 26). I have more to say than can fit in a comment, but here are some highlights: -416 is located in the Yongchuan district of Chongqing (same city as 296) -They were the only factory other than 296 which produced M21 export variants of the Type 56 Carbine. To me this indicates that their quality of manufacture was particularly well-established by the CCP. -They would have been one of the earliest producers after 296, probably beginning in the late 1960’s and producing throughout the 1970’s.

By the period of time this rifles were manufactured, they would be issued to the “public security forces”, not public security (Chinese police). Not a Mandarin speaker or reader, but here's an idea. In Viet Nam, the "general" police are the "Cong an". A thousand years of "hegemony" following another of "occupation" by China or one of its many "sub-kingdoms", definitely left a mark. And then, there is the matter of the rest of the often bloody history of the entire Indo-China region. SO: "Gong an" may denote "Police" ownership, as opposed to one or other part of the PLA / "Security Services".

Certainly possible. It’s also my understanding that the immediate precursor to the PAP was the “Public Security Corps”, so that checks out. Still raises the question of why only one brigade sized element marked their rifles when others did not (and why they apparently didn’t use them much).

I don’t off the top of my head, but I’ll look into that for you and try to get back to you. It may be Jilin Diesel Factory, but it also may not be. 36 *in a square* is a very unusual factory marking.

Thanks, I would have called it a rectangle, but with only 2 numbers, looks more like a square.

After I took a closer look at the gun, it appears the picture I had didn't get the entire number. It is 0136 in a rectangle, but that arsenal is not listed anywhere I can find.
