Great video. If I may, during the active hang getting the lats to initiate the pull, be sure to get the shoulders into external rotation (which you are doing every time but it was a mistake I was making). Haha the ego thing is for real!!! It sucks but yeah you gotta be able to put the ego aside. I worked up to the point that I was able to do like 15 pull-ups that I thought were good form. Then I realized (got called out haha) for not dropping to a dead hang each time. I had to cut my reps by more than half and it sucked but I finally built back up to about 15 again. Now I just realized that there is a whole next level of chest to bar pull-ups SMH. I literally can't do a single chest to bar. It's crazy the kind of muscle activation that you need for this full range. So time to get back to the basics and put that ego aside lol

Both are valid types of pull ups. Chest to Bar or Hollow Body pull ups. Puts a little bit of different focus on different muscles. Just make sure you don't excessively push your chin forward to "cheat" it over the bar when doing hollow body pull ups.

Hi sir, I loved your video it was just amazing. I've been trying to do these chest to bar pull-ups too and for some reason no matter how much I try I can never make it past the final distance between my chest and the bar. At the very top (5 cm away from the bar) my back inevitably rounds to matter how much I try to squeeze my shoulder blades. How do I fix this problem?
@dwat3r
2 жыл бұрын
I have the same problem as you. One thing that seems to work is that I do my pullups on a low bar, where I can help with my legs to touch the bar with my chest. of course, as little help as I can, and also tucking my legs when in the lower range of the pullup. Also focusing on coming down slow (not 10second slow,because after that I cannot do anymore pullups :D), and without leg support. Today is the 3rd workout I'm doing this (3x5 reps), and today I could do one chest to bar pullup without help. This way I'm still practicing and strengthening the problematic top range, with less resistance. I've tried banded pullups, I can do 5 chest to bar banded pullup without problem, but I didn't like that it helps a lot at the bottom, and almost nothing at the top where I'd need the most help. I haven't really seen this progression from people, but give it a try. The main thing is that no matter how many pullups can you do without full ROM, you won't be able to (at least I can't) do a full ROM pullup without training that top part. Another progression would be negatives, but I found them boring as f*ck :D
@dwat3r
2 жыл бұрын
update: fuck that progression I've just talked about, I've found a way I can do negatives basically everywhere: put a ring or strap or rope or whatever static thing over the bar (just not a band, it stretches!), grab the bar and step into the rope. You should adjust the height of the rope where you can stand up in it exactly where the top position you are in the chest to bar pullup, then perform sloooow (10s) negatives. That's where I am right now. eccentrics (negatives) are the best muscle builders, so I think I can progress with them, I just haven't found a way to get up to the top position until now. but this ring method works nicely. I'll post an update 6 weeks later.

I did regular pull ups and scapular retractions for a while but was always just shy of the chest-to-bar. I shifted my focus to weighted pullups and did some lat pulldowns at a light weight (40 lbs) that I could manage to bring down to my chest. A few weeks of those two, and when revisiting the bodyweight pull up earlier this week, I surprised myself by not just touching my chest to the bar, but touching my chest to the bar five times in a row. I don't know whether it was the weighted pull up or the last pulldown that had the most effect on me, but if either of those two methods are accessible to you, I would suggest looking at them.

Hello Fareed! Your focus should go on diet next! Start by tracking protein and calories. If you get those two right, 90% of you diet and physique issues will be solved :)

Great video again. Could you please make a video about hypertrophy of the forearms? How do you work them? Thank you in advance. Ευχαριστώ εκ των προτέρων

The best exercise I've found for forearms is grip strength training. I've always had fairly thin weak forearms, being an office worker doesn't help! I just bought some Powerball grippers off Amazon. Get a set that are easy, 100lb for me, one that is harder, 150lb for me and a target set, 200lb for me. Use the 100lb for warm ups, 150lb for sets and try the 200lb every few weeks to track progress. Be careful, it's very easy to overdo it and strain your tendons. I use these every few days or once my hands/forearms feel recovered. After 3 months I'm much stronger in the forearms. It takes time so be patient 😉

Wouldn’t it be better for muscle activation to return to a dead hang on every rep? Thus actively going into the active hang on every rep as opposed to staying in the active hang during the entire set.
