In this video I talked about something that had worked well for me in my ongoing learning. It was the idea of envisioning the "contact point", or the "hit", as it's been called, as something more concrete. I told a story about being Neo in the Matrix, and what it would be like to interact with a battleship artillery shell with time stopped. I explained the highly-energetic disc is like this bullet. You play and key off its "inertial resistance". Simply: your brain believes the disc is very heavy, and it puts you in the right body positions to manipulate that weight.
In this video, I discuss something I've learned recently, as an ongoing consequence of developing chapter two of The Method docuseries. I've learned there are in fact TWO bullets in the swing. My broken, rotational upper body biomechanics had prevented me from feeling the first bullet all that time, because I was only accelerating the disc in front of my core. That left all that backswing energy on the table.
I'm still working on integrating upper and body perfectly. Progress is good, and I believe I've figured it out. It has to do with this idea of "coil", which other coaches have been discussing. I'm pretty sure my next pure biomechanics video will discuss coil, what it is, and why it's essential to throwing pro power.
