In my trip to Georgia, I went to a restaurant on the heights of Tbilisi that was founded in 1938, and the only way to get to the top was with a train that they called funicular, that’s also where the name of the restaurant comes from!
Ponchiki, is a dough filled with vanilla cream or jam, it’s fried in boiling oil like donuts and served with powdered sugar on top.
This sweet was famous in Poland around the middle ages, and later it gradually came to other countries like Russia and Georgia and became really popular among people.
My experience: reminded me of our very own vanilla donuts with 2 differences! Less sweetness; more scent and taste of vanilla.
