Exactly. The Linn Drum is the greatest drum machine or set of drums of all time!

It is a drum machine on the studio version. But Roger played live drums in concert. I've seen plenty of vids of it.

To be fair, Roger's real drums kick in after the second chorus is over. Compare that sound to that of the intro (for instance).

Not just any drum machine, but a Linn Electronics LM-1. The first sample based drum machine, invented by Roger Linn. Fantastic machine used almost exclusively by Prince and the Revolution.

The amazing Linndrum, there is a single delay repeat on the kick and the snare here and there.

Beautifully processed Linndrum. Recorded wonderfully by Mack. Try and get a Linndrum to sound like this and you realise how good the producers in the 80s were

IMHO the production of "The Works" album is shit. To much wrong way to use electronic and synthesizer. This IMHO shity electronic sound destroyed the awesome songs. Live you can hear what potential the songs have, but on " The Works" is so sick. Also "Kind Of Magic" is full of electronic but there the production with rough drums/guitar is awesome and another world.

If you are born in 80s you are to late to go to their concert, as their last was in 1986. Better born in 70s and much more better born in 60s or 50s to see their first shows.

Yes it is. But it is the original drum sound from radio gaga. Many bands use drum computers to take them on the recordings

I cannot help, but for me - and the whole Works Album - with this synthesizer drums is shit. The album has so awesome songs, but on that album is to much electronic/synthesizer. When I listen to the album version and the guitar solo of "I Want To Break Free" I want hide away. Listen to the live the real potential of the songs went out. The "Magic" album is also full of electronic but there is still the rough drum and guitar sound, so that really works.
