I do have a question. I have asked several people and haven't gotten any answers as to why the FF's line up to stow the hoses. I have never seen any other videos where this happens. Only FDNY. I think this is an exceptional custom and shows true Brotherhood. When did this start? I would appreciate an answer and I don't expect a quick answer. I know how busy you are. Thank you sir. Stay safe.

Appreciate the patience Susan. I have been very busy recently. Although I don’t know when it began, it has been a practice for a long time. It is a sign that no matter how much time you have on the job or what company you work on, you help pack the line up. It’s a show of how they all work together to put the fire out and get home safe. If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.

Once again please try to stay as safe and warm as possible while you're out there shooting these videos in all types of weather conditions.

Appears hydrant is frozen up rendering useless for hose connector. This occurs because water is not siphoned from hydrant to. Below ground where water main is connected to hydrant, this is a normal procedure b/4 freezing weather occurs! otherwise no water is available to reach hose line no matter what you try!

My sister text me this same day saying it was 5 degrees with a windchill of negative 14 out on Long Island, way to brave the elements to get a great video. What was the piece of equipment that they were attaching the hoses to, was that something to prevent the hoses from freezing?

At 4:00? It is a hose manifold. I had the same question. They can plug a 5 inch in which can then break off into other lines. They use it if they need a lot of lines or need to get closer to the fire with more atack line. They are carried on satttilites.

I think it's some kind a Water Thief ,you can google "Water Thiefs" ! So you can use more than one line with same pressure and flow !
@FalconzInc
5 жыл бұрын
It's called a 'manifold' just that. As the other person said, it's a water thief (just here on a larger scale). A water thief is a device that allows firefighters to break one LDH (Large Diameter Hose) line into multiple smaller lines to use in an operation. It also has a portable high-expansion foam generator which can be used as a smoke ejector. Each line has it's own independent control/cut off lever. This device is only carried by FDNY Satellite Companies. Satellite companies (there are 6) are companies stationed with an engine and are called for special assignments (usually needing lots of water). They carry much more hose and larger diameter hose (Normal FDNY Engines do not carry anything larger than 3&1/2" a Satellite Company carries 5"). However they can't pump on their own, they need to be assisted with their parent engine company. Back to the manifold, it is great to use when the fire is a bit distance away from the street and you don't have enough hose to stretch from your engine to the fire OR you don't want to lose pressure and GPM (Gallons per minute) by stretching a smaller line hose. Keep in mind the longer you stretch a hose, the ore friction you have to account for. So if you use a larger diameter hose you can counteract this because of it's size. Many companies use this type of attack method. It is called a Courtyard Lay, or a Reverse Lay.

@@fanofClips Look at my other comment, it's called a "manifold" only carried by satellite companies.

Carl K you know your a real tough fellow sitting there in a warm chair (probably not a firefighter) criticizing what you see. You see the description of the video, dead cold temperatures, a building involved and firefighters trying to put it out. And you with your comment “add water”. How about you go sign up and your local fire station, go on a few Calls for a year, then come back . And maybe, just maybe, you will have an idea of what we go though. Till then, sit on your sofa, shut up and watch working men do what we do best!!

Damn where is water when it’s needed, all I see are a lot of FF’s standing around and empty water hoses. Sorry for stating the obvious. Are the hoses empty because the equipment is faulty if so are they not made to keep equipment in tip top conditions at all times. Peace
