What i've learned so far: drawing is drawing and tracing is tracing. Your earlier videos gave me the idea that tracing is somehow able to improve sketches, but obviously the benefit of smoothing is somewhat limited and doesnt turn an average unrefined sketch into awesome art. What i'd really like to see in the future is how do you draw this cool Jason Secrest cartoon style all of your previous templates had. It seems to be based a lot on simple shapes (like circles and curves) which was one of the reasons i thought Vector Tools play a role in creating that style. Obviously a misconception on my side as all the old cartoon styles/Disney were long before the arrival of computers.

As we go more and more through drawing styles you will see different techniques on breaking down images to fit the style you are looking for as we bring them into illustrator. Once you are in illustrator, now we are going through different techniques on getting the look you want. This super quick model isn't going to have the same amount of detail (detail=time), but the major takeaway is getting the lines down and a new way of editing for those who don't add variation to lines.

Reset Essentials Classic Workspace. In your control panel look on the right side for the workspace dropdown or access it through window-workspace. Next remove all the ones you don't use and add the pathfinder panel(window) We can do a tutorial to set it up so your floating panel looks the same as mine in future tutorials.

I would go through the Ice Cream tutorial starting from the photo reference. The main difference is you won't be adding on line variation or strokes. Hopefully you have some experience in the program, photo realism for a beginner will be quite difficult. You time will be adding more value layers and focusing on the edges of the values for blending using effects.

Are you doing realism and perspective? Are you tracing the image first or going straight at it in Illustrator? I will typically recommend doing a simple trace in another program such as PS so you can simplify what you are tracing. The other option is you can use PS or the PS effects to simplify some of the values into easier to trace chucks. (Cutout, Posterize or Threshold) had start breaking down the values into more manageable and traceable areas.
