This is a little embarrassing , it seems i released a little early... and the wrong episode. We shall role with this. The earlier TFOW was surprisingly well received and who am i to argue with what you Ladies and Mentlegents want and as such this will becoming a normal thing!

Trade has been done by the European explorer merchants going onto a beach and leaving a few items then backing off. When the natives came to take the items warning shots were fired. The natives then brought out their trade goods. After several goes around of matching quantities the Europeans took the others trade goods and left the payment. They were after all in range of the natives bows to keep them honest.

I keep coming back for the first story. It really is a remarkable thought exercise about how to conduct first contact with a truly unknown alien race. Just the brilliance of the engineer and the willingness of people to help. It is a great story.

Manners matter. Have to say the first one was pretty good A first Contact story that I have never heard or seen the light before the second one that one was excellent a word that Humanity had to put a good amount of effort into winning and once it was over they could be friends because the aggressors weren't wholesale Slaughters or anything like that

I always love the "Manners" story. The Kristi's are truly honourable, a proper warrior race that fights but rather than enslave the losers, they nurtured and raised. And they do have concept of civilians and POWs. And of noncombatants. Also I love how effing OP humanity was. "Victory was never in question," said the admiral. I am going to transcribe this story for posterity; the author has removed their story from Reddit, sadly.

Coming from an extensive military background, I'm honestly not surprised by the OP humans in the majority of stories on here. We've been fighting each other for our entire existence and have gotten extremely effective at it. Fast forward 1k or more years and we're just expanding on the available technology to continue to do that very same thing.
