I’m finding this much after it’s upload date but I appreciate the perspectives you are bringing to this! As a gigging percussionist/engineer/composer, I find myself at a weird intersection of this all the time as a Middle Eastern/South Asian person existing in music spaces. While I can’t always speak on the experiences of other POC, i appreciate the parallels we all experience navigating this career path

I like her perspective of "color-blindness". "Let's just treat everyone the exact same" leaves out the implied "as the people I'm used to interacting with".

Looking forward to the next one. I appreciate the variety of professionals that you're bringing to the discussion. I'm an elementary music teacher with most of my interactions being from the band and choir world so hearing similarly shared sentiments from someone involved in music therapy can be very gratifying.

5:45 - _Exactly._ Pretending to be blind to race, gender, sexuality, or anything that forms someone's identity is one of the most horrifying, yet subtle, ways someone can try to oppress you. It's an offense to culture, history, and the present if you try to deny even part of who someone is.
