I decided to meet up with a couple of my friends at the Model RR club, which is next door to the Edmonds Amtrak Station office at the station. While I was there, I decided to kill the time by catching some Sounder, Amtrak and BNSF action.
Train #1: Sounder Commuter Train #1700.
Train #2: Sounder Commuter Train #1702.
Amtrak Empire Builder Train #8 was supposed to arrive into Edmonds just after Train #1702 departed Edmonds. However, I learned that Train #8 lost engine power (locomotive broke down) at a very remote location of the Puget Sound at Milepost 10.38 on main track #2 near Carkeek Park. They sent out an Amtrak mechanic crew to the location to fix the problem. While that was happening, all of the other Sounder commuter trains and BNSF freights have to pass by the Builder on main track #1.
Train #3: Sounder Commuter Train #1704.
Train #4: Sounder Commuter Train #1706 with Engineer Dennis hauling 5 coaches instead of 3 coaches as the train will be used for the Seattle Mariners Home Run Special for the weekend.
Train #5: This westbound BNSF Z-CHCSSE Critical stack train wasted no time out of the siding at Edmonds and rumbled through the station.
Train #6: Finally, after almost two hours of being stranded in a remote area of the Puget Sound near Carkeek Park, the Amtrak Empire Builder finally arrived into Edmonds. However, a BNSF employee noticed that the ditchlights on the lead engine was apparently off and was not flashing when the train was approaching the grade crossing. He reported that to the crew and the mechanic who was on board the train walked back up to the front. It turns out the engineer simply forgot to turn the headlight into full brightness. That cost the Empire Builder an additional 10 minutes as the train departed Edmonds.
Train #7: Amtrak Cascades Train #516 making a station stop.
Train #8: Another BNSF Z-CHCSSE stack train rumbled through Edmonds. This make it my last catch of the day.
Enjoy the video.
