It was rainy dark day on December 21 2020. I was practicing this version of the song when my father suddenly passed away, way too young... This song brings me to tears every time I try to learn it... Rest in peace father, miss you a lot..

Hoverin' by my suitcase Tryin' to find a warm place to spend the night Heavy rain's fallin' Seems I hear your voice callin' "it's all right" A rainy night in Georgia A rainy night in Georgia Lord, I believe it's rainin' all over the world I feel like it's rainin' all over the world Neon signs a-flashin' Taxicabs and buses passin' through the night A distant moanin' of a train Seems to play a sad refrain to the night But it's a rainy night in Georgia Such a rainy night in Georgia Lord, I believe it's rainin' all over the world I feel like it's rainin' all over the world How many times I wondered It still comes out the same No matter how you look at it or think of it It's life and you just got to play the game Find me a place in a box car So I take my guitar to pass some time Late at night when it's hard to rest I hold your picture to my chest and I feel fine, I feel fine But it's a rainy night in Georgia Baby, it's a rainy night in Georgia Lord, I believe it's rainin' all over the world Kinda lonely now and it's rainin' all over the world Rainin', rainin' rainin', rainin', rainin' rainin', rainin', rainin', rainin', rainin'

Why is it the best are always in the back round, no recognition until many years later. This man is a guitar hero at the top of the list. Technique can't replace soul. Pure emotion. That's the best stuff.

yep, Curtis Mayfield was excellent on guitar, too, of course, but Curtis had the advantage of unparalleled vocal and songwriting ability.

Mr59coconut .... and in many cases (Cornell including) they NEVER are really acknowledged for their genius. His counterpart Eric Gale is another.... along with the musicians in The Swampers" and the "Wrecking Crew".

depends on what you mean by technique. &, while we're at it, i hate lazy phrases like pure emotion: overlooks how technique and choice of voicing & timing create the experience of emotion. What Dupree excelled at was LISTENING to the arrangement & figuring out a harmony & rhythm that serves the song. He ain't the "listen to me & play around me" dude that most people lose their minds over. Point being, before you have emotion you gotta have taste, knowledge, and skill.

I agree, same with background singers doing harmonies that really make the song.

The greatest session men like Cornell Dupree - and anonymous guys laying it down in bands headed by famous people, too - are in a peculiar situation: Millions of people may have heard and enjoy their playing immensely, but don't know who they are or sometimes even what recordings they play. Until the 1970s, it was common for side-men and session players not to be listed on LB dust covers and jackets. The famous "Funk Brothers" of Motown, for example, played on millions of recordings sold to the public on the some of the most-recognized popular hits of the last seven decades, but Berry Gordie didn't even list them on the records for many years. Later on, finally, Motown did it, but by then it was too late for some of the people who'd been in that fabulous group. James Jamerson - the brilliant bassist - and Benny Benjamin the equally-brilliant drummer - are two who come to mind. I'm just glad Cornell Dupree got the chance to hear the audience cheering and feel the spotlights on himself once in a while during his years with King Curtis and later on in the 1970s, playing for the NYC R&B group "Stuff." Oh, and he did 2,500 sessions in his long career. Wow. Most of all, I treasure his record as a leader, "Teasin'" (Atlantic, 1974), which is a masterpiece for the ages. No one lives forever, but if people still appreciate this kind of music a hundred years from now, I hope they'll be diggin' this record. That's not a bad legacy to leave behind.
