For a high lift there are special drums, that start at a big diameter and taper down to maintain constant force during the high lift section, and go to the straight constant dia pully section just as the top of the door gets to the horizontal tracks. The way you have it the door may not be balanced. You can check by relasing the door opener clutch and checking for balanced at closed, mid and full open. Online vendors will sell the parts. If you are ( reasonbly) scared of spring winding, maybe not what you want to do. Most pros don 't know how to do it either.

I'd had this same concept in my head right down to taking the section from the back at the ceiling to add to the bottom but seeing it helped confirm that it is as basic of a concept as I'd imagined it would be. Thanks 👊

I have seen many cases of raising the tracks. This is only a small raise. Some guys raised them 5 ft. high but I do not understand why you have to raise the Jack shaft. Get those made to order inclined & large radius tracks from the specialist supplier. Keep the jackshaft in it's original position as much as possible. There is a lot of maintenance for the jackshft. If you raised it, you need a longer ladder.

I didn't raise the jack shaft, it's in it's original location.

i think i can figure out the track just fine. My door how ever does not have a torsion spring like yours. it has these regular springs on each side. The torsion spring part seems very confusing lol. not really sure what to buy

Hi, thank you for the great video. The only thing that I don't understand is why you need to build out from the wall. Why can't you just keep the tracks mounted against the sheet rock where they originally were. Doesn’t building out from the wall leave a gap between your garage door, and frame on the outside of your house? Thank you.

Thank you for sharing this!👍👍 You used the same factory drums, springs and radius in the track that comes with a standard door?? If so this is what I've been looking for. I've thought that this should be doable. So many high lift door videos on the Tubes are just showing them installing the $300 to $400 high lift kit they bought. Thanks again.

Thank you. Yes I used the original factory drums, springs and cables. I cut the track at the end and raised the track. Installed the new lift master to the shaft.

I’m about to order a high lift kit with new longer cables, a pair of cable drums, and new springs. It looks like you didn’t even have to go that. How much did you spend? The kit is $400 with tax and $58 shipping. Good video. Did you have to unwind the springs to move that section up?

Thank you for sharing this video. Garage door industry or at least the installer side of things do not seem to agree amongst themselves. Some say it is ok to do this, and some will hate you with passion for doing this. I am at a similar situation where I need to raise the horizontal track as well. How did you manage the drums and the cable length?

I took the cables loose and preloaded the drums by rotating the shaft two turns then reinstalled the cables on the drums. I used two pairs of Vice grips to hold the shaft in place after turning it. I’ve uploaded several videos on this. Look for the others in my play list. Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for the video! I added 30 inches to the bottom of mine but when I try to raise the door the bottom of the first panel hits the header and wont go any further. I'm trying to avoid buying a high lift bracket. How did you get your door to get past the header?

No for sure not with the lift. It might without the lift. It would be close and I might have to lower the tire pressure.

@@guaranteedworstcardetailin6793 Wait you used the same cables ? Original cables for 16x7 are around 8ft. How high is it from the floor to the pulley on its high lift position?

I'm getting ready to do this in my garage studio. if I'm lifting my Garage up 22" how many more turns do I need to add to the tension of the coil.. I have the Wayne Dalton Torquemaster one system. also I'm no longer using a Garage door Opener.. I'm opening by hand.

Hello I'm looking to lift my Garage doors up 22" to the top of my ceiling... I'm not using a garage door opener at all I was going to cut the extra track on the top and add it to the very bottom of the track on the vertical wall. my only concern is the coil tension. and adding extra cable
