I don't have a witty pun for the number 8, so... here are my three this time. •Founders Day- During an incredibly tense mayoral election in the standard small town, the daughter of one of the candidates is killed in front of her girlfriend by a masked killer. As the bodies continue to pile up, civil unrest festers and both candidates begin to lose it, Allison, the previously mentioned surviving girlfriend, finds her and her father being slowly drawn into the killer's game. While I wouldn't call this my favorite recent slasher, I still really like this one. Firstly, I really like this premise of this slasher based around this small town mayoral election with political themes. Admittedly, those themes are not explored as much as they could have been, but they're still there and done well enough. I also really dig the killer's design with a twisted take on a 18th century judge appearance complete with bladed gavel. I also really enjoy how the mystery unfolds with genuinely surprising twists and turns. Aside from that, it does everything a good slasher should, the main characters are really likeable and fun, the hateable characters are entertainingly hateable, the kills are memorable. It has heart, humor, emotional moments, blood, gore, creativity. Once again, not the best of recent years, but still check it out. •Creep Van- Stumbled upon thus one randomly and quickly found myself having a good time. The film follows Campbell, a down on his luck twentysomething who gets a job at a mechanic's place. Tired of taking the bus and wanting to impress his attractive co-worker, he attempts to buy a cheap van, the titular creep van. However, unbeknownst to our downtrodden protagonist, the owner of the van has pimped the thing out into a literal murder-machine and is now targeting him. This is a really good dumb fun horror comedy. The amount and variety of different murders they accomplish with this suped-up van is actually really good with guillotine-like window blades, spiked airbags, miniature remote controlled traps and a few good old fashioned vehicular homicides. The main characters are also quirky and likable like Campbell's roommate Bob, who is a genuine guy just trying to help his friend through a hard time while also being a professional gimp who is revealed to be giving his life-affirming pep talk in his introductory scene while in a leather dog suit in a kennel outside because his dominatrix girlfriend likesy. It's really a blast. Check it out if you can. •Pillow Party Massacre- This one really surprised me. Standard Lois Duncan set-up. A group of girls pull a prank during a dance their senior year of high school that through some indirect cause and effect results in a violent death. Two years later, the traumatized girls get back together for a girls' trip to a cabin in the mountains. Slasher ensues. What surprised me was how genuinely well-acted and thematically rich this is. Like all the main cast feel like real people and all exemplify the theme of trauma and how people deal with it. They also handled the inciting incident really well, crafting a scenario shere the main characters and the tragedy are seperated enough for their likeability to be affected. The kills, while not the most original, are also primarily done well with decent bisections, head smashing, face burning and tree branch impalements. However, some the kills are also my only problem with the movie since there are some incredibly low budget digital gore that does not look good. Aside from that, it's surprisingly great. Seriously, check it out.

I would definitely recommend Mike Flanagan’s shows, especially the fall of the house of usher (probably my favourite) and the haunting of hill house.
