Bobby Clarke was protected on the ice by the whole team. Lindros, on the other hand, was left to fend for himself way to much. Even though he could throw them with anyone; he was to important to the team to be sitting in the box for 5 minutes and messing up his hands.
@theodorebelmont7922

You're actually totally right about that. The Flyers did have a lot of tough guys but they weren't protecting Lindros like they should have. Why didn't they just have Marty McSorley on their team LOL I'm watching these highlights and he's basically at every single one of them starting s*** with everybody and at the end of the interview he's basically threatening Lindros his life LOL. If the Flyers had McSorley nobody would have ever touched Lindros

@@timmiller8495 I grew up idolizing Bobby Clarke and my dad had season tickets in the late 70's. I watched every game on TV when Prism came out. So I think I have a valid opinion on the subject. I'm not saying the Flyers didn't have tough guys during the Lindros era, I'm saying they didn't protect him as well as they did Clarke. Guys like Pilon, Ulanov, Odjick were allowed to get away with trying to injury him over and over again. Picking up Sandy McCarthy helped but it was near the end of Lindros/Flyers era.

This is what I've always dreamed of... there was nothing spectacular about the old Flyers when they were deemed the Broad Street Bullies, other than they were a good team but also intimidated and played dirty during their run to their cup championships. When the rest of the leagues smartened up and followed suit, the Flyers reign more or less stopped. If the Rangers management had bothered to do the same during those years, who knows how things might have ended. Of course, hindsight is 2020, but it's interesting to point out the Flyers haven't won a cup since!

If I was the NHL commissioner I would mandate for the refs to be more tolerant of the rough stuff because passion and hate is what makes for great hockey to watch. Why can't we have the best of both hockey worlds, blend the past with fighting married to the highly skilled game of today and I guarantee that would be a supreme product that the fans would eat up and sell out stadiums across the league with better tv ratings also ! - why does it have to be either or when we can have both hockey styles in one product.
