I thought the GSOT was deeper plus we beat those Vikings teams 3 times between 1999-2003 putting up 40+ points every time & once was a playoff game (& then again in 2006). Harold jackson should be in the hall of fame
@fortynights1513
2 ай бұрын
I agree. Through 1983 when Jackson retired, he retired second in receiving yardage, and still top ten in receiving touchdowns and receptions, and in 1981 and 82 was top ten in yards from scrimmage when running backs are included. He didn’t have the playoff career of some other receivers who have made it to Canton from the 70’s, but he also arguably never played with a prime Hall of Fame quarterback unlike most of the Hall of Fame receivers from the 70’s (he played with Joe Namath but in Namath’s final season, and he played with John Hadl who some say may belong, but he got pretty much the last year of Hadl’s prime). Say what you want about advanced analytics, but recently Football Outsiders released their play by play based DVOA stat for skill position players for the 1979 and 1980 seasons. Their stat found Jackson to be the best receiver in the NFL in 1979, and still eighth best in 1980, and their stat for quarterbacks found his quarterback Steve Grogan to not be a top ten passer at the time. At that point we are in his 11th and 12th seasons as a starter, and two and three years removed from the last accolades he received, and if so, then he must’ve had good longevity.

Should have mentioned that Lionel Taylor of the Broncos was the first WR with 100 catches in a season. Could have given a shout out to Bob Chandler for the Bills.

Steve Smith was a dawg man. I remember my buddy, who punted for BYU back in the day, talking about the times he punted against Steve Smith while Steve was at Utah. He always had to punt out of bounds because Steve was just too good. One punt he even caught from the sideline as it was going out of bounds and returned it for a ton of yards. 😂

Texans at #21 feels Criminal, we've only had 5 seasons where a WR hasn't reached 1,000 yards in Texans history, and we also have the most 1,500+ Individual receiving yard seasons by a TEAM despite being 22 years old. Although I do get Teams have more storied histories than ours.

Texans being as high as they are after only being around for 20 years is pretty nice. Their top 2 puts in a lot of work. Hopefully someone on our current roster like Nico Collins can reach that peak, too

When my man Largent retired he held every possible record for a receiver until the great Jerry Rice came along. That would be receiving yards, most receptions, and touchdowns. He was also the first receiver to ever accumulate 100 touchdowns. That was starting with an expansion team in its first season tucked away in the PNW.

For the Packers, I’m actually very surprised that James Jones wasn’t mentioned among the receivers from the Rodgers era. Sure Donald Driver & Jordy Nelson are on there, but James Jones was himself a very good player on that team, and he in a way helped save the 2015 season after Jordy went down with that ACL tear in the preseason.

This list is so fun! So not to hate, just my take! Or maybe I should just say I’m curious how they came up with the rules for ranking! Because it seems weird to me having teams like the Jets above a team like the Titans. Tennessee had SIX players with at least 6,000 career yards. That’s more than almost every other team I checked up to the Jets spot. That’s even more than the pats, although the Pats did have more 5k. Idk I was just checking myself at first saying “well you were just too young to know most of the top Jets guys probably “ but the same is true about almost all the best titans guys too, for me at least, but they definitely seem to top the Jets guys. But I suppose it isn’t just about all time yardage and TD leaders, it’s also maybe about having guys like Marshall and Johnson having a couple of 1k seasons with the team, etc. I guess when it comes to modern era thar I’ve witnessed, the titans reallt don’t have much other than AJ, and Mason, and a few others. Idk I just love debating this whole list! It’s great!

Lions not being in the top 10 is criminal lol. I'd agree with the ranking you gave them had Megatron never been born. But since he was, and since he is arguably the greatest pure talent to ever catch a football... I'd say top 10 is a must.

Calvin is the first wide receiver I've heard to have "catching hands like Spiderman" when coming out of college and then transitioning seamlessly to the NFL level to prove that comparison was correct. He was a cheat code and changed the entire outlook on the game, just like Jim Brown did as an RB. 🤷

Can't forget the Cowboys cornerback/PR/KR we, America's Team, let play WR3 flanker as a caveat in the major deal we made to get PRIME, and what a signing it was indeed - primetime #21 Neon Deion was a secret weapon that the Cowboys slid in the slot to burn the slowest corner on the other team playing nickel coverage. Hahaha i love you, Jerry Jones. Its the best move he ever made at GM

I think collectively the Steelers should have the 1 spot..... Stallworth, Swann, santonio holmes, ward, burress, randal el, nate Washington, mike wallace, Emmanuel sanders, antonio brown, juju smith schuster, diontae johnson, and George pickens..... I don't know that any other team has the same volume of drafted recievers like that. They may not have had the "best reciever of all time" but they have the greatest volume of great recievers.... Especially when you factor in where they found most of these dudes in the draft. Most being round 3 or later. Not to mention all but 3 of them have super bowl rings 4 of which got them with other teams to further prove their value

@@billcaitlinmarinelli1680 why do you say that about tae? Please don't say drops because that will mean you haven't actually watched him and think he's had more than 1 year with drop issues. @@billcaitlinmarinelli1680 yes there are a lot of guys I would leave off my list if that's what I was trying to argue. My statement is about overall talent and the draft capital spent on that talent. Like for example..... Depending on who you ask tae is probably around like the 8th best Steeler receiver on that list (give or take) and I guarantee he is better than. Every other team's 8thish best receiver of all time by miles. Does that make sense? Steelers may not have had the "greatest receiver of all time" on their roster, but when you're rounding out their top 10 of all time tae definitely holds up compared to the rest of the League. Hopefully I explained that the way I am trying to lol
@zackamig4446

@@billcaitlinmarinelli1680 and don't discredit Pickens and donate that much. There is probably more overall talent at that position in the NFL right now than at any other time in NFL history. Both diontae and Pickens are number 1 receiving options for their teams in the era of the wide receiver. That means something too. Plus don't discount the abysmal QB Play they have had to deal with. If prime big Ben was slinging them the ball they would be absolute super stars
