@MrMgkman13

The only problems I have with Arrow is 1. Too many heroes I liked solo Oliver and the team is too big now. Same with too easy to be a Superhero. 2. Felicity. Her reaction to Oliver's kid was terrible and unnecessary just there to force romance drama. And she acts like she can tell Oliver how to train people to be vigilantes but Oliver knows how to do it without dying he has training which Felicity has ZERO. 3. They're kinda making Laurel too important after her death. She wasn't that important. Other than that I love everything about the show. Though the last episode irritated me (I hate all the lie speeches from Felicity and Curtis)
@SeanChandlerTalksAbout

Oh my goodness Felicities reaction about Oliver's kid was PAINFUL soap opera non-sense. A guy discovers he has a child and she starts lecturing him about trust again. What is the show's obsession with BAD trust lectures? Their views on trust, loyalty and honesty are misguided and dangerous. And they write all of it as if they're being profound.

Dude, you have no idea! I almost did a rant video myself. Their emphasis that there had to be a Team Arrow, Felicity going nuts that Oliver should reveal his identity to strangers he doesn't know, makes me angry!! I thought these flashbacks were a tad better. But you're right, the flashbacks are all these rabit trails instead of the basic stuff they established in the first two seasons. I agree we don't need someone preaching at Oliver all the time! And the fact that a weekend in training makes someone a superhero drives me nuts! I got some drive left in me though to keep watching this show, but that doesn't mean I'm not dissapointed. I'm disappointed. How could Felicity and that other dude be so stupid to think he just reveal his secret identity? I kept coming back to this point because it made me so mad!! I did do a video ranting (and reviewing) about DC'S Legends of Tomorrow. That one I'm really about done with. Arrow is making me sad. They need to dump the team, learn what trust and honesty means. And no you are not nit picking. I want this show to really go back to its roots. I loved it, and I'm sad how much it's hurting feelings.

I'm continually baffled by the highs and lows of this Arrow-verse. It's such a bizarre mix of good, bad and unbelievably stupid mistakes. All of the mistakes you mentioned above are mistakes they've made before. The internet has ranted about them before. They can easily write those down as categories in their writing room and just don't do stupid. But no...we get stupid. Seriously they need to hire me as the common sense consultant.

Thank you for the video. It's about time that people should start avoiding Arrow. I never liked it since the beginning. It was a cheap rip off to Batman that borrowed several of Teen Titans' villains. It's filled with characters trying so hard to look cool and beautiful in front of the camera. Where if fact they're all annoying. Third, it never seem to know what it's going to be. Whether it's a superhero show or a soup opera. Season 1 and 2 were ok because Deathstroke was a cool character. Season 3 is where it suddenly became terrible. Season 4...Constantine and cross-over with The Flash only mattered. Season 5 Episode 8 was the worst of the Invasion Cross-over and is where I say I'm done.
@SeanChandlerTalksAbout

Be careful about critiquing that crossover episode. I did so in a video, and every Arrow fan on planet earth came after me. I didn't mind the Batman rip-off stuff at first since we don't have a live-action Batman tv series, but as the shows gone on it's clear the writers don't know what does and doesn't work about their show. It seems like they keep stumbling forward without ever evaluating both WHAT and WHY people resonated with certain characters and plotlines. They keep repeating the same mistakes.
@rrmendoza8076

Thanks! So I thought it's a lot safer to criticize if the video criticize the same stuff. Because the KZitemr and I are on the same page. But there were 2 occasions where I got cussed and wished I'd die from angry fans who I'm surprised went after me rather than the people who made the videos. Wow. Episode 2 Season 3 of Arrow was where I started hating it. After Sara Lance got killed, it was a shock to see Oliver Queen going into an Asshole mode and ordered his team to keep this a secret and not tell anyone. Especially to Sara's loving father Quintin Lance. Lying is always the most terrible thing in every CW show. Eventually the truth always come out and everybody will start hating and fighting one another. Which is depressing to watch. Arrow had a lot of that. So I cheered when Quintin found out, raided the Arrow cave and arrested Oliver Queen.

Not if all the other stuff is still so far gone. Those seasons were the best because all of the elements worked together a lot better. He was a good villain with a backstory which tied to the flashbacks who threatened Oliver's family. They could even have a great Deathstroke storyline, but Oliver still isn't interesting, the mayor plot is going nowhere, Diggle is still gone, the flashbacks still don't engage, and the new characters are awful. So they're so far down a terrible path that I'm not sure if anything could fix it.

Ill be honest I didnt hate the first two episodes but I definitely dont have the enjoyment that I got from the first two seasons. I would have to rewatch the first two seasons but I dont remember the dialogue being so bad at times ("I had to become someone else...I had to become...something...else") and I remember caring about all the characters which now I really dont. Im glad they got back to Oliver killing because that was a unique element that I loved about the show and I agree about Felicity being back to the fun Felicity. I also think the villians are pretty interesting so far which can make or break this season after season 3&4 epic failed on the villain front. Where the writing bugs me the most is how many people is Oliver going to reveal himself to? Is there anyone left in Star City that doesnt know hes the Green Arrow? Thea is just there to be there and Ive grown to really dislike any screen time spent on Diggle. Oh and the big secret of what Laurel told him on her deathbed is "Hey you should recruit another Canary"...lame! And taking the flashbacks away from the island was a huge mistake. Like you said its incoherent and undermines the storyline that they kicked the show off with.

My fear about the villains is that this early into seasons 3 or 4 I would have told you the villains had great potential. Ras and Dark are two great villains. But they took the stories off in such strange directions. They're so busy coming up with the next plot twist that they never just let the show be. This season they have the very interesting idea of him existing as both mayor and Arrow and in desperate need of help. Then by the end of the episode he decides he needs a team. Episode two he recruits a team, goes tough love and them and doesn't trust them...and by the end of the episode he reveals his identity to them and decides to be nicer. They just fly over every idea. That's part of what they did with seasons 3 and 4's villains.

More of the downward spiral. ***IF YOU WANT TO KNOW...END OF SEASON FOUR SPOILERS BELOW*** Oliver becomes the mayor of the city. DIggle leaves and joins the military again, but they keep cutting to his story. Functionally it's like the flashbacks....just another story they're telling. He's recruiting a team of new partners. But it's just more of the flaws from the last two seasons.

Season 5 is a mixed bag. It starts off by making some huge mistakes just as bad as season 5, but they also fixed many of the season 5 errors. This last stretch of episodes has found it's footing and I've found myself just enjoying it without significant criticism. It might be the most uneven season. The highs are pretty high and the lows are pretty low. ...o yeah and there's a bizarre episode about gun control. They openly stated they wanted to take on an issue and they picked gun control because of the nature of their show. But it never occured to them that a show about a city who's police are so ineffective at enforcing the law that a seriel killing vigalante must rise up is TERRIBLE place to preach about gun control.

Overall not really. It's an improvement over season 4, but that's to say it's an improvement over the bottom. The last two episodes have been really good. But the first seven episodes just trade season 4's mistakes for a new batch of mistakes. In this case they introduced a bunch of new characters who aren't particularly interesting and put Oliver in the role of coach. So instead of getting lots of screen time with Oliver doing awesome Oliver things, our time is divided amongst a bunch of characters less interesting than Oliver and our Oliver time focuses way too much on him working with a bunch of people I don't care for. This leads too far too much time with weird cheap motivational speeches about trust. So for all the good things they're doing, I'm still usually very frustrated by the show.

I understand your points and agree with the bad states. A lot of things have been mishandled. A lot of steps should've been taken earlier on if the show were to be enjoyable later on. There's a missing layer to the story that gives the complexity, but i do feel like their picking some pieces of layer, *very* slowly. It seems like season 5 has had to suffer with the dismantling of the layer and mishandled opportunities in the show. Besides that, it's had to suffer with bad decision making from the writers (i'm talking about decisions during season 5 like you said about the "lying/secret" thing). Seriously, the show could look to it's first 2 seasons as inspirations and i swear it would improve, but they are why i watch the show now. 2 seasons of goodness that make me hope again. I believe in the greater talent returning, offering creative ideas in this universe. It's why I'm here wondering about the final year on the island, Laurel's grand return, Oliver's future and the legacy of the Green Arrow along with people he's influenced. However, i'm not stupid. Past sins are there and still lurking. Character development that hasn't been reached still isn't present. Conflict has been used for wrong things. Little touches in the past are missing to fulfil that feeling from the pilot. Ignorance to the history of the show (and it's bases/inspirations) are shown. Now that i think about it, i don't know if you can get that feeling of enjoyment from season 1 and 2 now, and i've enjoyed season 5 thus far. I think it's just if you're willing to hold the writers hand and watch a history get made of a super hero. They said 5 years on an island, I'll be here for 5 years then. They said Green Arrow, sure thing. They made these promises, let's see what they keep. It's at this part when i understand people not watching the show anymore, coz now it's just a matter of your bond to these premises and will to stand by them. If i had about half my will, i would've dropped this shit the moment Laurel died, but i believe in it being better even from the buildings they burned. *EDIT:* This season is the jury. So far, we are 2 - 2 with good seasons vs bad seasons. Season 5 is that final battle on figuring out what to do with this show. That's why i'm giving this season a chance too. Final decision

Here's a thought... I think one of the reasons the first two seasons were so strong and the last two seasons so weak is that they chose to move REALLY FAST early on. Almost every episode had some impactful story element for the bigger picture. I think in the 3rd episode has Oliver arrest for being the Arrow and it's resolved within the episode (as a counter example, the show Dexter ran a similar storyline which ran over 10 episodes). It's not sustainable when you burn through plotlines and plot twists that quickly. When you start running out of good ideas, but your show's format requires new twits each week...you start going with bad ideas or cheap ideas. Thus in seasons 3 and 4 suddenly everyone knew Oliver's identity or become a super hero.

Austin Hammack's Reviews the main thing about Arrow that exasperates me to no end is how much this season and the past two seasons you can see they want to make their own Version of "The Dark Knight". Specifically by Having Oliver continue his "Arrow" persona more because he thinks it's his life now and less because he wants to avenge his dead parents. Similar to Bruce Wayne; he continues being Batman because he wants to be Gotham's symbol of hope and less because he wants to avenge his dead parents. And in the process, they (both Bruce and Oliver) nearly end up comprising their personal relationships and friendships as a result. That's the main thing about the show that pisses me off.
@SeanChandlerTalksAbout

The show has always tried to be their version of Nolan's Batman in it's own ways. But yeah it's been coming apart the last two seasons. In and of itself it doesn't bother me that they try to rip-off the Dark Knight (a TV version of the Dark Knight universe sounds good to me), but they're doing it so poorly. They're having Oliver do things Bruce did without earning it. They haven't written Oliver in a way which makes sense with him doing what he's doing.

From episode 14 onward the impact from The Winter Soldier starts kicking in and wow, does the show improve...it goes from seemingly stand-alone episodes (which were never that stand-alone to begin with, most of them have an impact or meaning later on) to story-arcs with next to no filler-episodes (perhaps one or two in every season, and even those have some elements which are relevant). The characters develop in a way you would never expect, but it makes totally sense for them...and above all, the show is utterly unpredictable, which is the highest endorsement from me, since I am usually pretty good in predicting where a show goes. It also sidesteps nearly all of the more annoying storytelling clichés....no love-triangles or contrived drama, the characters actually talk to each other instead of keeping unnecessary secrets but when they keep one, it always makes sense and the other characters do understand why they did it (meaning pretty much the opposite of Arrow). You'll also get more an more characters with powers as the time goes on, and more and more minor Comic characters I would have never expected to see in any show (I could give you some names, but only if you ask, I don't want to spoil you). To answer the question you asked in the video: Yeah, Arrow always had those problems. I kept hoping that it would overcome the contrived writing and tendency to go for melodrama and instead focus on the strength of the character, but after the show killed off its best characters by the end of season 2, turned Felicity into a starry-eyes love interest with no agenda at all and then started season 3 with killing off Sarah, too, I knew that the writers had no idea where the strength of their show actually was and that it would always worse from this point onwards. I dropped The Flash after season 1 because the Timetravel logic made zero sense even back then, which is always a big no-go for me. I have now accepted that the CW shows are simply not made for my particular taste (I HATE love triangles with a passion). Agents of Shield though...I gave up on it early, just like you, because the show utterly failed to make me care about the characters in its early episodes. But I was curious to see the impact of the Winter Soldier, so I gave it a second chance, and boy did it pay off. Unlike Arrow or the Flash, Agents of Shield has just keeping better and better. In a way it is actually more crazy than any of the other shows at this point, and I enjoy every minute of it. I would say watch the end of season 1 and perhaps the first few episodes of season 2...if you don't like it at this point, it might not be for you. But don't judge it by the first episodes. They aren't a good representation of the show.

If they killed Felicity in the limo this show would have rebounded to a top show again. Arrow has sucked since season 2 Slade is forgiven for mommy murder. Oliver is lame. Felicity sucks. Thea is corny af. Diggle is bipolar.

They had an episode a few weeks back where they attempted to tackle gun control....which is hilarious given it's a show about a vigilante killing people with a bow and arrow (who's sidekick carry guns). The episode goes on to spread false information about AR15s.... And the big resolution to the story arc involves politicians being able to compromise to pass gun control laws... Which is is of course unbelievably hilarious given that the central premise of this show is that the city is so corrupt and the police are so inadequate to enforce the laws that a vigilante must rise up to protect the city and enforce the laws. If ever there was a TV show who's central premise was not compatible with a pro-gun control worldview...IT'S THIS TV SHOW! THE ENTIRE POINT OF THE SHOW IS THAT THE LAW IS INADEQUATE AND THE PEOPLE NEED PROTECTION!

Yeah, Sean; I'm not gonna lie to you; I never liked Arrow then and I don't give a rat's ass about it today. I have my own reasons for disliking the show; you wanna hear them?

Sean Chandler Talks About okay, Here we go. 1: for the past two seasons, they try to emulate "The Dark Knight" in terms of Oliver keeping his "Arrow" persona more because he thinks it's all he has and less about avenging his dead parents. Even at the expense of losing friends, relationships and even his future. 2: they should've just ended the show at season 4 with Oliver defeating Ra's al Ghoul and ditching his costume to start a new life with Felicity. That would've been a fantastic note to end on. Instead, Nope! Screw it; we can't stop there; the fans will maul us to death; Sorry!! 3: you're right about Thea; they could've written her off by having her and Roy getting engaged and leaving town together when they wrote him out of the show. But, once again, Nope! And that's it. P:S: I have a Q&A coming up. Do you have a question for me that I can answer? Anything?

Sometimes I wonder if TV executives have any artistic integrity. I get it's a business, but part of the business is building a brand of great storytelling. Doing so requires letting so shows play long enough to be completed and ending some while they're still profitable. With Arrow it looks like they're going forever I don't have any questions off the top of my head, but I'll think about it.

Sean Chandler Talks About I know, man. My favorite tv show of all time is "Avatar: The Last Airbender". That show ran for three seasons and told a great story across those seasons. The story arc ended at the end of season three and so did the show. That's how you properly end a tv show and especially one with a good story and arc.

I haven't quit watching but my heart isn't in it anymore. I would probably agree that it's the best of the last 3 seaons, but it's still highly flawed. It's making it's own new set of mistakes.
