Lil Wayne, for sure. Metalhead me in high school would've scoffed at the idea of listening to Wayne. A friend of mine played 'Mirror' from Tha Carter IV, and a few years after that I listened to Tha Carter III while on lockdown in 2021. Total gamechanger, Wayne's now one of my favourites. Carter III might have my favourite beat selection of any hip-hop project, its incredible in a car with a 12" in the back

It definitely took me years to get behind Danny Brown. Initially I heard him on the song Ego Death with Busdriver and Aesop Rock. Definitely glad I've expanded my tastes since then.

Same with dude, Kendrick didn’t hit for me until Section.80, specifically Keisha’s Song and HiiiPower…those 2 songs were the ones that solidified to me back in 2011 Kendrick was doing something not heard in rap since 2Pac. Deep emotional storytelling with conviction behind the voice. Not to mention that he was only 23 years old at the time. It was the revelation that Kendrick was truly speaking beyond his years.
@SoulOfTheSouth

Kendrick wasn’t doing anything different at what he was doing. GKMC was similar to certain project like Ras Kas or Nas. The reason why people love Kendrick so much is because he has a Lil Wayne like raspy voice, which Wayne is his idol and influence. He has a Andre 3000 flow and the aggressive approach of Eminem. That’s why people love him so much. I wouldn’t say he’s 2Pac of this era because ive heard people actually said that also.
