Beautiful pickups! I tried getting the Topsy Hartsel a few weeks back. For what it sold for, I should have went after it harder. These are neat pieces of baseball and card history.

Yeah lots of the Colgan's can be had for very affordable prices, especially compared to other cards from the same time period.

what sort of product was "Colgan"s Chips"?

It was a gum product. The chips came in a round gum tin.

What do you think about the Colgans proof cards. What are they really?

I don’t think they are proof card and most that collect the set would agree. They were a company that ripped off the Colgan’s shortly after the Colgan release. It’s speculated those square Colgan look-a-likes came in bread packages. They simply got mislabeled as proof cards. They are rare because they most likely didn’t run for very long before the Colgan’s Chip company intervened.
