I don’t read Italian,but I learned a lot by looking at the scrapers and how they were sharpened or curved. Thank you for this. I see you using these scrapers and that helps me too

Thank you you so much maestro, for the infos about all your types of scrapers.. I tried so many times to get the right measurements of some of them by enhancing somehow the pics… but now it’s so clear. Thank you once again!😊🙏🙏🌹🌹💥💥

The most comprehensive information I have seen to date on the subject of this indispensable tool. I am having trouble finding good 0.5 steel, but did acquire both 0.4 and 0.6 from Cremona. I will keep looking around. Many thanks to you.

0.4 mm can be fine for small scrapers because it forms thinner tips, provided it is stiff enough, and this depends on the quality of the steel. 0.6 mm can be excellent for larger scrapers (apart from that for the ribs which must be at least 1 mm because it need to be very stiff) or for small non-pointed ones. More than thickness, the rule would be as thin as possible as long as they remain stiff enough. If they flex too easily they become unmanageable, and less effective and precise because it is not possible to keep the cutting angle with the wood constant during the scraping action.

@DavideSora

To give the shape I use a single cut file like this: www.amazon.it/NICHOLSON-Crescent-06601NN-rettangolare-singolo/dp/B001R1QCN0 Making sure to keep the surfaces at 90° Then I remove the file marks with the water sharpening stones (grit 1200 and 4000), taking care to always maintain a 90° angle without rounding the cutting edges. For actual sharpening, i.e. to turn the edge, a hard steel rod (burnisher) is used like this one: www.cremonatools.it/narex-acciaino-64-hrc.html You can see how the scrapers are sharpened here: www.fine-tools.com/G10004.html Even for those curved the procedure is the same
