I was fortunate to be present at this performance at Cité de la Musique in Paris 5 years ago.Never to be forgotten,Brilliant performance of a "fragile" orchestral piece.Brilliant audience too,no coughing and spluttering - not a pin dropped.Obviously i was aware that it was being recorded but I was unable to find it until it appeared on You Tube.So -thank you Kim Cul Deok. Ravel's music is my soul music as it was my mother's years ago.I now live near Ravel's home town at Montfort L'Amaury which holds an annual festival of his music every October and I frequently visit his small pavilion there with its own "jardin féerique" to draw inspiration.

My favorite composer; (No doubt he was a genious!), my favorite work.Incredible and most than perfect version of this hard to play great suite.Excellent camera direction, giving us the just moment in wich every player acts. Even the face and body expresion of the conductorl (directing without score!) is amazing.THANKS VERY MUCH FOR SHARE THIS MASTERPIECE!

Great post. Ravel is a top 3 composer for me, but he is tops on some day (along with Mahler and Sibelius). This is indeed one of his many masterpieces. On occasion I sometimes prefer the entire ballet, and sometimes I prefer the abbreviated suite version. Also of note are the versions for piano duet, and another single piano version transcribed by Jacques Charlot! My absolute favorite orchestral suite version on CD is with Sir Neville Marriner/Academy of St Martin in the Fields (on Hänssler Classic), which I believe is out-of-print and fairly difficult to find these days but it is really worth tracking down that CD if you can! Ravel is life!!

It is the entire ballet score, not a suite, not the earlier orchestrated piano works....which of course are incorporated into this full score.

Yes it is. It's called "Prélude" from "Ma Mère l'Oye". I don't know why but the suite isn't played entirely usually. They start with "Pavane de la Belle au bois dormant" on most of the executions. But before there is the "Prélude" and "Danse Du Rouet Et Scène". (sorry for my bad english, i am "français")

I don't want to cast dispersion upon this orchestra as there are many there that were on que and in tune but you can hear in the very beginning some players were off key. Later, there are a few other instances also. Overall, So Good especially the clarinettist, the violinist and flutist. Reminds me of the movie, "The Concert" when the orchestra members who have not played together for years are gathered together to play for the first time with NO rehearsal. But, as the music continues, they all begin to meld together into one of the greatest performances ever given. kzitem.info/news/bejne/x4htxa6kqICDgYI The most disturbing thing about this recording is NOT the orchestra but the skips and gaps causing great irritation in the enjoyment. Maybe someone some day will go back and find this recording and fix it with a flawless copy. This is my FAVORITE piece by Ravel. I can listen to it over and over and still get goosebumps.
