Maybe I missed him saying that or something, but on Peacock I noticed The January 29th episode said that it covers the Steiners VS Nash and Konnan, and DDP challenges Benoit for title.. BUT, the February 5th episode covers Nick Patrick addressing the fans over controversial officiating, and DDP defends title against Benoit. 😂 What the heck is going on?! Thunder is okay but it's a average show. WCW Saturday Night is still a thing and that got debunked for Nitro and Thunder. The Power Plant was like NXT.
@martynodonnell8467

Sadly Thunder would be neglected, from only a few weeks after it’s debut. It’s one of the major things which helped with the downfall of WCW, over saturation and over exposure. Being forced to have a weekly wrestling B show, no one cared about and no one wanted too book. They should have kept Nitro at 2 hours each week also, 3 hours was overkill. It wasn’t until 99 that WWF would show how a B show should be properly put together when Smackdown debuted.

It was one of the better moments under Russo of trying to make it look like something unscripted happened. Booking Macho Man vs Sting in the main event of Nitro really shows WCW are only for ratings versus making as much money as possible. Looking at it with hindsight, I feel like we can see how much ratings matter to WCW. The dumpster spot and aftermath was brilliant, i remember watching this originally and although we all know what wrestling is all about i felt this definitely blurred the lines between whats real and whats entertainment. I don't know..from the second I first saws it, I was laughing at it. Not just because we had JUST seen all the Styrofoam peanuts fly out, but we had already become plenty desensitized to Foley and people who knew Funk knew that as well. This looked very tame compared to what they did. I literally remember my friends and I joking that that dumpster thing was probably a ride at Action Park. Which, granted, meant it was dangerous, but not THAT dangerous. But still..they fell like 5 feet while surrounded by materials designed to absorb shock and the dumpster fell onto a table to absorb more shock. Why is that any worse than falling from a much higher height with your unprotected body.

Look t those ratings tick up and up. Wasn't too many weeks ago that Nitro was getting the 3.5 while Raw was in the mid-2s. You have to wonder how much the Tyson media coverage helped Nitro. People who had no idea what wrestling was may not have even known there were 2 companies. They see the Tyson news, look for wrestling on their cable dial, come across TNT (a more popular channel than USA) where they have seen so many reruns of Shawshank Redemption and think THAT was the show the news was talking about so they watched that. Especially seeing Hogan, who they remember as the big WWF star.
