@@kidcardco definitely one of the worst but knight errant and fatal alliance and every TCW Tie in by Karen Miller are still a million times worse.

Not a good book but I still thought the "talent show" scene, specifically with Anakin singing a song his mother used to sing, was engaging. That moment really made me empathize with Anakin in a way I never did in Attack of the Clones.

I am not necessarily inclined to agree with you, but I read this book once and have rarely considered a reread. I remember liking Anakin and Obi-wan in this story, Bariss was tolerable, but Luminara was a bit off putting, but I believe that was actually a character trait of hers. She was not a tolerant or easy master, and considering that, if I remember right, she took very little notice of other affairs, she very likely might only have registered the initial uproar but then failed to take a unique interest in Anakin's life afterward. The contrast between her, Obi-wan, and Qui-gon is striking. 1) Qui- gon was always pursuing causes even if the Counsel was opposed to it. Obi-wan as his student absorbed much of this philosophy, and we see some of this during the interplay in Episode 1 before the Counsel. Qui-gon wishes to train Anakin, but the Councel opposed it initially on the fact that he had a padawan already. 2) Obi-wan then both in defense and defiance of his master, he declares that he is ready to face the trials, to Yoda's disparaging, "What know you of ready?" However, we later see, as his promotion to the Counsel indicates, that he is not as radical as his master and had long ago been more in agreement with the mainstream of Jedi philosophy. However, it is his master's philosophical training that guides his hand in dealing with people and Anakin in particular. 3) Luminara was the radical opposite of Qui-gon and an example of the navel gazing meditative hedonism that pervaded the Jedi Order of this era. She is of, by, and for the Temple and strenuously unwavering dedication to the Jedi Code and tradition, the stuffy embodiment of the rigidity that Anakin rebelled against in Rogue Planet and throughout his time in the Order. In fact, we see that not even the Grand Masters, Mace Windu and Yoda, share her rigidity, though Ki-Adi-Mundi seems to be of a similar mentality. I believe it could be the confrontation between Anakin's more free-spirited nature to a severe master of the Order that brings back the more juvenile side of his character for a time, and Obi-wan is being the good master that he is showing that even if Luminara does NOT approve of the antics, his own master is not so judgmental of such things.

Haha all I could think of is the Attack of the Clones novelization, When Yoda is referred to as “The diminutive Yoda” at least twice in the same scene.

Just finished this book earlier today, and watched your initial review before this one. Surprised to hear that take. This one is much more accurate lol. Sidenote: It's quite funny that Alan Dean Foster made both father and son Skywalkers good swimmers despite being from Tatooine

Yeah, I'm glad I'm doing these. Back in the day I was starving for ANY EU and I was a lot more forgiving back then I think. Now I'm more honest with the EU (I still love)

I haven't read this one and probably won't based on your review. It was hilarious by the way. It seems that every Star Wars book by Alan Dean Foster I've read is lackluster. (Original SW novelization, Splinter of the minds eye, and the Force Awakens). So I think I'll steer clear. Thanks!

Ha! You're on the nose with Foster. I'm afraid he wasn't cut out to write for Star Wars. His pacing is bad.

The only reason this book exists is the throwaway line from Mace about how the dynamic duo had just returned from a mission on Anison. Well, of course they HAD to have the backstory on that! Worst prequel book ever... in my best Comic Book Guy voice.

I thought this book was pretty awful. Read worse in the EU. Knight errant, and all the TCW Tie in Novels minus no Prisoners. But still definitely on the bad tier

No prisoners was really good, interestingly, subtly or perhaps by total accident she made Djinn Altiss even more similar to the kther great married dissident Jedi: Jolee Bindo. Because he could blend in on a planet where the population was at least in that city, almost entirely humans with dark skin, he's black like Jolee was.

It’s a real shame this is so awful. A great Ep. II prequel could’ve been told using Sifo Diyas as a main character when he had the visions. Maybe even a Dooku book to set him up as a villain. There are so many lead-in plot threads, even excising Bounty Hunter’s Jango story. Instead Foster gives us two characters who show up at the Genosian Arena in Ep. II on some backwater planet with Obi-Wan and Anakin.

That whole "chosen one" idea was awful. Prophesies are ok in SW but the way it was executed in the prequels was just bad.
