I have played these games for so long but just now realizing that Gwyn was easy in DS1 because he was a husk of himself. We basically fought a frail old man who was withered from his prime due to his lust for power and keeping his Age of Fire alive. Now, in DS2, we fight and easily beat Nashandra because we have toppled every barrier Vendrick erected that would have destroyed Neshandra. We eventually became the barrier that would stop her, and we did. I love DS2, man.

I think the character of Alsanna in this game is worthy of attention. I don't think that her character simply symbolises the traditional connotations associated with "a creature of darkness". A child of Manus comes across as being an entity that is almost certainly to be resisted and fought. All of the Queens (but one) in like fashion demonstrate traits worth resisting. In that sense Alsanna is one of the few characters that defy a designated "fate". She seems to maintain purpose in her life not through selfish wants but rather what seems to be very genuine love for the Ivory King. She is not exactly fearful for she never strays away from what she has come to hold dear: not by virtue of what she was supposed to be but rather what she became. I think her existence brings immense hope to the universe of Dark souls for her existence proves that the nature of beings is not necessarily quantifiable through designated fates and expectations.

The key here isn't that she was different, but rather the Ivory king. While the other kings were either curropted by their queens, or had fallen before their queen even arrived, the Ivory King realized what his queen was and put genuine faith in her anyway, and thus changed her nature. For all we know, he would/ could have done this to/ for any of the other queens, but only Alsanna was so furtunate

I like both formats of story. It’s like you get the part of piecing it together yourself, then a learned scholar comes along and tells you where you got it right and where you didn’t. I’m glad the game doesn’t break up the pacing with too many cut scenes. I think it really lends to the feeling of being a stranger in a strange land. You’re not going to get the worlds history and politics regurgitated at you straightforward. You have to consider that every character you meet has their own interpretation of events depending on their alignment. It lends to the mystery and makes videos like this very satisfying to see it all come together as a coherent story.

There was some fancy description in your journey that said it, but the thing Vendrick took from the Giants was the First Flame. If you remember things of DS2, it seems a lot less detached than people say, but mechanically, they would be correct as they tried out some different stuff in the way it runs to allow for things like powerstancing as opposed to what they were already familiar with for animating it. That's where any of it getting to be a little rough starts fitting in the way it did as a development in general. Elden Ring works something like Dark Sous 2 + Dark Souls 3 + Sekiro. You're going to realize what that means about DS3 is part of how it works, fast. DS3 is going to share much from both previous games, lore wise, to you.

a little notice that you should watch other ds2 lore videos ds2 explained is a good video to start with, and also to clarify on something, dark souls 2 is "detached" because the fear of ds2's bad "feedback" they left out a lot of good things in this game and went back to ds1 fashion, no spoilers, you'll see why soon. regarding the lore of dark souls 2, it's easily by far the best of the 3 and dark souls 3 also easily makes that point, but you gotta play out all the endings of the game AND the second DLC (the ringed city) in order to understand the significance of dark souls 2's lore. vaati did a good job explaining the lore but it didn't quite hit home because he left out a lot of crucial details that makes this game even better to his other "prepare to cry" videos what makes dark souls 2 really special to me is how you understand that it isn't selfish to desire a conclusion to yourself without having to worry about others, because it makes it clear that you can't save anyone but yourself in a world where everyone is selfish and only wants everything for themselves, instead of doing it their own, they USE you to do it, vendrick, nashandra, shanalotte, pate, crestfallen knight, and many others. and while YOU as the player take all the effort to do what they couldn't , it's only your fair share to go on a lonely path of saving yourself, and use your power to shape your future, and possibly the ones after. i know this is a long comment and i have so much to say, but also keep in mind that bearer of the curse plays out the existence of the protagonist in ds3 , and aldia plays out in the lore progression.

It's interesting to look back and piece together the entire story once you have completed all three games. However, you can even connect themes across all of their games, not just Dark Souls, to get a better grip of contextual evidence. That being said, it is hard to piece everything together even still, and very few videos out there actually manage that. Vaati is one who has not necessarily done it effectively. One idea I've been mulling over in regards to the souls series is actually a concept that originated in Demon's Souls - that the main story figure, be it a lord or king (and this necessarily includes the player protagonist) actually shapes or even creates/produces their version of the world once they perform their version of taking the throne. Every world we play in is the vision of the lord who came before us, so that means it is a combination of what they had already experienced, with an admixture of changes they imagine. As such, in Dark Souls, every lord retains the vision of the age of fire first established by Gwyn, as that is one of their experiences, yet each time the cycle is repeated, the world changes some, and the first flame shrinks ever so slightly. This ultimately leads to the state of the world in Dark Souls 3, where it becomes unsustainable. Yet, this helps reinforce the overt existentialist message found in all the souls games by giving people agency in their creation of value in the world, something only achieved through continuous strife, cyclical patterns of life and death much like Sisyphus, but with the retention of a purpose or ultimate driving goal retaining sanity, despite the unfairness of being born afflicted by a curse. In a way, the games offer a glimpse of hope in a very dreary world.

Hey just a heads up Mati an Elden ring Parody by Matthew Shezman is coming out between this Friday and Monday the fifteenth I don’t know if you’d like to watch that before you start dark souls 3 or after but Shezman’s parodies are by far the funniest I’ve ever seen and if this next one is anything like his dark souls 3 or Sekiro parody you’ll be tearing up in laughter. Just thought I’d let you know and thanks for all the hard work and great content, really looking forward to your run of DS3

Yes, that is exactly what Dark Souls is all about. "We're all on the same Journey" A car stuck in the snow... Praise the Sun

26:58 that’s why you read every piece of item that you pick up even if it’s dung lol. Like from those big trolls from blighttown everything has meaning in this game you don’t need vati s vids. They are beautiful and great, but you can get everything from the descriptions. Like 95 percent of the lore. Haha not all, there’s some lore that still hasn’t been explained by myasaki that’s the beauty of these games, and I hope they make a dark souls 4 as well as an Elden Ring 2 obv

1:03:58 Same dude! The only one I haven't watched is the one he (VaatiVidya) made for DSIII (cuz I haven't completed the game LOL!). Feels like watching a National Geographic docuseries and the more you understand the lore, the more you deep dive into it and might draw you back into the game for New Game + :P

You're gonna love (or hate because this is how these games are lol) DS3. I started with Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3, Elden Ring, then all the way back to Dark Souls 1. Dark Souls is still one of my favorite games, even if I did die like 1.2k plus times. 200 deaths or so in NG+. And I only got better too.
