Hehehe it was me who suggested this one- by the looks of your views it’s as popular as I thought it would be! British humour at its best, this show was also hugely popular here in Australia. Glad you enjoyed it!

Ronnie Corbett made the sketch with his reactions. Chuntering to himself, together with the looks he gives Ronnie Barker, are inspired.

'Hardware' shops like this were very common when I was a boy back in the 60s. The owners invariably wore brown dustcoats and could unerringly put their hand on whatever obscure item was demanded. They always had a characteristic smell combining paraffin (ie kerosene), sawdust and a faint underlying hint of hot metal. I remember being sent to the shop at the end of the road with a paraffin can to be filled and a shopping list of 6 bamboo canes, 3 yards of chicken wire, half a pound of 2" nails and a bag of lime (to treat the overly acidic soil). You could literally walk in a buy a single nail if that's all you needed. Sadly, these Aladdin's caves were pretty much wiped out by the chains of massive soulless DIY stores that swept across the country in the 70s.

No matter how often you see this sketch, and I've seen it many times, it is always funny. For another brilliant piece of comedy try Andre Previn's appearance on the Morcambe and Wise show.

This particular clip is from the series in 2004 where they reunited to look back at old clips. Hence them being quite a bit older than the sketches. Ronnie Barker hadn't been well and he sadly died some months after. Ronnie Corbett continued to work and feature on various shows including a special called The One Ronnie where he collaborated with other comedians in various sketches. Check out the Blackberry sketch he does with Harry Enfield. Ronnie C left us in 2016. I was fortunate to be in the audience for a couple of these lookback shows in 2004 and met them both which was a very special moment.

They show them at Christmas on BBC and I always cry when I see Ronnie Barker. I know we all get old but it really is heartbreaking to see them together for what we know is the final time. I love Ronnie Barker so much my Whippit is called Ronnie Barker. Full name even outside in public 😅😅 ✌️❤️🇮🇪
