Ale has great taste! My brother in law put this album on his high end Realistic turntable with 4’ tower speakers back when this was released. I said, Wow, Bob Dylan has a new album? You had to be there to comprehend how huge this debut album was. Mark Knopfler is one of the finest finger picking guitar players we’ve ever been blessed with.

My respect for Ale just multiplied. "Sultans of Swing" is one of the all time greatest songs. It is timeless music that tells a story worth listening to and one of the most memorable guitar solos. "Brother in Arms" is also an awesome tune by Dire Straits. EDIT: What happened to the grand finale solo in the video? That is the pinnacle of the song. What a shame. Ah, you answered in the end. Thanks for the thoughtful reaction Glenn and Adrian.

I loved this song when it first came out. I was working in a Musicland store in a mall when I was just out of High School and was already into rock and roll and hated anything disco. I was always looking for the next rock album to purchase on my employee discount. This album was a must have. I had a rather large vinyl collection by the time I was 20 years old. Of course, I moved on from the retail music store for other work, but kept on adding to my collection. Still have them all today. Ale has great taste, all three girls do.

Athens Greece May 1985, Second show of the Brothers in Arms world tour...One my Favorite bands ever, and Sultans one of my top 5 songs, and one of top 5 live shows. interestingly enough 2 more of that top 5 shows where also in Greece ( I went to high school over there, dad was oil guy in the middle east ), Eric Clapton, '83 in a 2000 seat theater was unreal, and Talking Heads summer of '82 also unreal fun! Not to leave you hanging, the missing 2 are, The Police Synchronicity- '83, and AC/DC the Thunderstruck album '86 (i think) both in my home city Edmonton Alberta! Where I'll be seeing the girls with Amy Lee and Lzzy this October!!! Super impressed with Ale's choice, but lets face it there's TONS of old school rock throughout DPA's new rock, so impressed but not surprised.

This was a song that made everyone sit up and take notice when it came out. Nothing else sounded like it. Dire Straits were one of the bands that benefitted hugely from the pub rock scene and the exposure new bands were able to get in the wake of the punk and new wave explosion. In the UK, fingerpicking really came out of the folk rock of the 1960's and players like Bert Jansch, John Renbourn and Richard Thompson, who were actually far more accomplished than Mark Knopfler but never broke into the mainstream. Paul Simon was also part of that scene for a while and he's a pretty good guitar player himself.

While this video has racked up almost 375 mil. views, which is no small feat, there is a drum-cover by a then 17 year old girl, known as sina-drums, that has almost 70 mil. views, which is *really* impressive for a drum cover channel. Sina is an incredibly prolific youtuber, and has covered all the rock-greats we grew up with. While she may not be as focused on rockmusic as Paulina, she can certainly, as David Bendeth put it about Ale, "hang with the best of them". You should check her out... kzitem.info/news/bejne/wKdu2W1ppJ6SoKgsi=tFnCyljOPNKYI4YG

Mis-heard lyric - thought it was “they say an old guitar is all he can afford”. Left-handed guitars were much more expensive than righties back then and the fact that fewer people used them, absolutely didn’t make them a throwaway bargain (at least around my way). Knopfler, as a fellow lefty, must’ve known that?
