I Hate the term "reverse racism" it's just racism, regardless of who it's from or who it's against.
@SirPoofyPants
8 жыл бұрын
you're basing your belief on assumed properties of how the racism is implemented and on the characteristics on who it's against. Not all middle aged white men are in the middle class and not all black men can't get a job. There are rich, pour, smart, dumb, lazy, ambitious, etc. people in every demographic. Likewise, racism takes many forms. Racism doesn't become better or worse depending on who it's against. Racism is bad because of the discrimination and immoral actions it leads to, regardless of who it's against. To assume it's better or worse based on the recipient's race is an act of racism in it of itself.

+SirPoofyPants The term has been redefined, last I read racism was those in with the majority of the political power discriminating against those without political power on the basis of race/ethnicity. They allege that racism is specifically systematic and cultural. In contrast they allege that "reverse racism" or racial discrimination at a smaller level is better defined as bigotry or racial discrimination. They used to just call it institutional racism, but the argument in favor of the definition is that in the USA it has been used specifically in the context of White discrimination against Blacks for so long that it has a different connotation here as compared to discrimination.
@SirPoofyPants
8 жыл бұрын
That makes no sense as a definition. Even if you can establish what is meant by "power" and determine who has said "power" (which is impermanent and nebulous), it's still an individual's beliefs and actions that makes them racist. The point of the term is to call out those discriminating based on race. Altering that is simply done so some people can justify their own bigotry but claim not to be racists because they don't have the "power". Ultimately what we call it doesn't matter. Discrimination based on race or any other arbitrary characteristics is wrong regardless if you have "power" or not. And though some people like to play word games and redefine phrases to try and hide their bigotry, actions speak louder than words and no one can escape that fact.

@@VladprydeI think I now know what a snowflake is. It's a person who imagines that his bad times equal those endured by another whose familial history includes kidnapping, being sold into slavery, being beaten and/or hanged just because, being denied the right to ANY education then the right to an equal one, and of course the right to vote. In the infamous Bush-Gore recount, 20,000 NON-felons were scrubbed from the voters list in a couple of Florida counties because their names were similar to felons. Out of one county's list of 500 who weren't allowed to vote, only 32 were felons. But white men are being treated so unfairly now. Whaaah!

+tomlxyz Maher's bullshit is fallacy riddled - it always has been. His bread and butter are strawmen - this video is no exception. In point of fact, it is an excellent example of a monologue replete with strawmen, reductio ad absurdum, and good old fashioned purposeful misrepresentation of reality (or "lies" for those of you keeping score at home). The OP didn't make an argument, therefore the ad hominem nature of his comment wasn't argumentum ad hominem... Unless... If you were *ASS*uming that there was an unstated but nevertheless implied argument within his original post, then you must state what you thought the argument was, and refute it. Your comment is a argument by fallacy. Just because the OP committed a fallacy (still ASSuming the implied argument), it doesn't make his comment wrong. You need to demonstrate how his argument is wrong, independent of the fallacious logic employed, otherwise your comment is equally useless. Droppin' some knowledge on ya. You're welcome.

People still deny what is happening right in front of them, and then choose to believe whatever lie makes them feel warm inside, because they are scared. Scared of knowledge, other cultures, change, their own imaginary friends, science, etc. People bitch yet they voted for the results. +Joosejpr i love how conservatives will take one observation and pretend it disproves all progressive thought. logically he did not say "conservatives and only conservatives," therefore by providing examples of conservatives blaming the left for trump proves his point without contradicting it
@kendomyers

Joosejpr I included you in my response because it was a direct response to what you appeared to write. I reread it and it seems to follow...so what are you talking about? I responded to what you wrote. You assert that because one author of an article sited is a leftist, then you claim that the video is full of fallicies. but maher did not say "conservatives and only conservatives" so if liberals did write such articles he does not contradict himself, your statement does not follow and is itself a fallicy. To be clear, you provided evidence that did not properly address the words he actually said and then came to a conclusion that is not at all supported by your flawed evidence anyway. Then in your new post you provide a lot of accusations without evidence. His overgeneralizations are mitigated by the breadth of sources he sites, his condescension can be annoying but is part of a dramatic/comedic style. So... That leaves your claim that it is full of falacies.What fallacies are there? Please provide examples and evidence for your claim.

It's not liberals that are to blame for that, it's the conservatives posing as Democrats who control the party that are to blame. Bernie is most popular among liberals, so if it were up to us, Bernie would be the nominee.

That article from Vox is actually pretty good. I would highly recommend it. It isn't about Trump being the left's fault. Its written by a liberal, criticizing liberals like Maher who think that somehow mocking other's viewpoints harder will change their mind. It doesn't of course, it only makes them dig in deeper. In that sense I supposed it explains the left creating Trump, but the article isn't about Trump. It's more about people like Maher. Its a VERY good read, I don't care what you're political ideology is, you should check it out. Here's the link, www.vox.com/2016/4/21/11451378/smug-american-liberalism

The Dixie chicks criticized the Iraq war...got blacklisted and harassed for not "loving America" and daring to question the bush gov. The "war" on christmas need i say more) Politicians (as long as they're not trump or republicans) saying naughty words... Criticizing or mocking Jesus or Christian faith Christian martyrdom in which they still claim in a country 60-705 Christian that Christianity is being oppressed, and Christians are being hunted down and slaughtered for their faith... ....Everything triggers right wingers but it's only called being PC if you're leftist. They weren't reacting against economic anxiety either, as the average trump supporter was found have a job, a house and making around the national average wage of 70k a year or higher. Nope the real thing they reacted against... ---was that there were too many non whites in the country and that made the white people nervous... www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2018/04/existential-anxiety-not-poverty-motivates-trump-support/558674/ www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2018/10/16/17980820/trump-obama-2016-race-racism-class-economy-2018-midterm
