the handmaiden is one of my favorite movies of all time. i read fingersmith at the beginning of the year, not realizing its what the handmaiden was based on, so for me the big reveal was that realization

great wrap up as usual! i'm finishing assassin's quest this week, and man, i agree with every single one of your criticism about the trilogy. the first book was my favorite, actually one of my favorite reads of the year. what i liked the most in the story though was the characters. there are just SO MANY amazing side characters, even some introduced in the last book

I aggree with you 💯 per cent with The Swimmers and The Enriquez book. Great ones. Now here are my recommendations for you 1.Negative Space by B.R. Yeager. You will never be the same after reading this masterpiece.2. The Thing Between Us - by Gus Moreno. He's also from Argentina. 3. Gristle Bone by Duncan Ralston 4. Breasts and Eggs by Mieko Kawakami and 5.Alice Knott by Blake Buttler. These all will make you blow up your mind I swear. These are my latest read alongside the non- fictions like The Theory of the Solitary Sailor by Gilles Grellet. Lovey, please read these books. It's good to know what we all are reading. And exchange our experiences. As always, love you.

I read Robin Hobb’s books starting with Liveship to Assassin like you. You may like the Tawny Man, too! (Though the story starts out very very slow, it made me cry at the end)

I recently read, and very much liked, both of Sara Nović‘s novels. They both have open endings that are a little frustrating to me, but mostly haunting and hopeful? I just finished True Biz (which follows the lives of students + the headmistress of a deaf school) yesterday, and am fascinated by how only one single conflict gets resolved. It’s almost like the book doesn’t have an ending.

Pacing has always been my main issue with Realm of the Elderlings in general. That said, the Tawny Man trilogy (3rd overall; 2nd with Fitz) is my favorite by far

Just finished Bright Light Big City & I’m loving James Baldwin’s Another Country. It’s the selection for WNYC’s virtual book club for the summer. It’s a better double feature read that I expect. They have more in common the in difference.

Assassin’s Quest pacing is indeed very suspicious. But it has Nighteyes, so whatever

Hooray for "The Swimmers"! Experimental literature but with fleshed-out emotion will always be a win in my book! Didn't realize until I looked up Mariana Enriquez that she was the author of "Things We Lost in the Fire", a collection I've heard nothing but fantastic things about. The question is: do I buy "Our Share of Night" first or the collection? "Fingersmith" probably won't be my cup of tea unless "The Handmaiden" (when I finally get around to it) grabs me the way it grabbed you.

Things We Lost in the Fire is a solid collection, but Our Share of Night is a masterpiece. I think OSoN >>>>> TWLitF by a huge margin
