I actually prefer it over The Dark Knight, well the directors cut I mean. I enjoyed the ultimate cut, but I could've sworn I saw Mollock at the newspaper stand getting a paper AFTER Rorschach's arrest, which is the moment Mollack was found murdered. So that kinda bothered me.

Really? I think Darwyn Cooke usually is amazing. However, I didn't like how he vilified the Minutemen. But that exemplifies how overboard this "event" is. It takes the Minutemen - a mostly idealistic bunch of people, who were brought down by their own severe flaws - and turns them into downright anti-Heroes. Similarly, Stracyzynski takes the hint that we got from Nite Owl II's backstory that he didn't get along with his father and not only turned it into a downright abusive relationship but also made Dan a murderer through inaction. It's just over the top and lacks any of the nuance the original had. And I am usually a fan of Straczynski's work. And also Cooke's and Wein's. Not so much Azzarello. I just don't like what they did here, especially since it doesn't even come together well. The sole exception was Silk Spectre. Silk Spectre was actually quite clever. So, yeah 4 good issues out of 39.

I just rewatched the movie last night after finishing the graphic novel for the first time and was surprised to see that it follows the story completely except for the very end which had a little twist. Already own the deluxe editions. Glad you showed that the omnibus collects these issues on release date: it's the reason why I won't pick up this book. I just finished reading the entire Watchmen series starting with B.W. all in title order, Watchmen, all the tie-ins to Doomsday Clock and the new series up to the latest #10. If you plan to do something similar, you want the finish Minutemen first, then Silk, Comedian ect... The entire Watchmen collection is already full of flashbacks and all and I think reading B.W. on release date won't get you enough into the story as reading on title name will do.

I f#ckin' hate what Snyder has done for the DCEU, but his Watchmen is just awesome. Highly underrated movie. Instant classic.
@fgdj2000

I think, Zack Snyder has a unique style, but rarely thinks about what he does. Case in point: Watchmen is an incredibly faithful adaptation of the GN, down to the tiniest details, but certain things (portrayal of violence, subtle changes in the characterizations of some of the characters) betray almost obliviousness to the themes and deeper meaning of the GN. While I'm still very fond of the film, I view it as a great companion to the original Graphic Novel, but not a sufficient substitute. Before Watchmen, as much as I respect Darwin Cooke's works in it, is a cynical cash grab and has no redeeming qualities in my eyes (apart from the afformentioned Cooke). Now, the new Watchmen TV-series, is the first thing to come close to a true successor of the original novel, since it actually tackles current issues (like the original novel did back in 1985) and manages to not to continue and expand on the story, but also on the themes and social commentary of the original.

Zach Snyder or Scott Snyder? Scott Snyder's stuff (in my opinion) is freaking amazing... He has really built up the Batman mythos and introduced some great stuff to the DCU, Metal has now become a full on crisis event with the Darkest Knight wanting to destroy everything in the New 52/Rebirth Multiverse and create the "Last 52" and, it is so awesome! Seriously check it out. Court of Owls is also considered by most to be one of the best Batman stories ever. Zach Snyder on the other hand killed the DC cinematic Universe before I could walk, but that's also to blame on WB for encouraging writes to fast track their way to big climatic, world destroying villains so they can piggy back on the MCU. Watchmen was a really good film though and is one of, if not the best Zach Snyder movies and really under rated. What he did with Superman and Batman and the whole JLA though was horrible! absolute trash, but lets be honest nothing DC has done (movies) since The Dark Knight Trilogy has been good. I still think Suicide Squad is one of the worst movies I've ever seen and I have watched some damn awful stuff in my time... I don't think Zach was connected to that movie in anyway so can't blame that one on him and also Wonder Woman was pretty terrible too, really hated all the crappy CGI effects and I (personally) think Gal Gadot is a terrible actor and didn't really bring that character to life. Any way I think WB/DC know how bad it all was what is why they let Joke be a thing and are also re-booting Batman again. This one actually sounds like it will be good, I just hope they remember to include scenes and not breakneck blink and you miss it action and exposition dumps. Also, just wanted to point out Zach didn't write the movies, he only directed them. Watchmen was written by David Hayter (yes, Solid Snake) and, BM V SM/Justice League was Chris Terrio, one of the worst writers of this decade! Belive it or not Man of Steel was written by Christopher Nolan of the Dark Knight Trilogy.
@fgdj2000

@@benhopkins4587 I meant Zack Snyder. And, yeah, what I've read of Scott Snyder is amazing, but I don't read that many comics anymore. As for the DCEU, I think there were some interesting ideas, but it was really rushed and therefore not good. Man of Steel was an inspired take on Superman imo, but really needed more work on the screenplay to flesh out what this particular Clark Kent was all about. I also liked the more sympathetic take on Zod, but it fell flat by him murdering people left and right in his first scenes and the skull dream sequence. Batman v. Superman was basically three movies in one and didn't work, because it couldn't figure out what to focus on. Justice League was a disaster and I'm really curious what Zack Snyder's Justice League will reveal about how much studio interferences had to do with it. Other than that, I actually really enjoyed the more recent DC-based films (Aquaman, Shazam!, Joker, haven't seen Birds of Prey, yet) for being really more diverse and different from each other than MCU films, which feel a bit samey to me, now. And that trend seems to be continuing going forward with The Batman, Wonder Woman 1984, etc. So, I'm actually more excited about DC-based movies right now than I am about MCU movies.
@benhopkins4587

@@fgdj2000 yeah I agree mostly. I think Marvel need to take a break for a few years, give everything some breathing room and come back strong. Great vid as ever Gem but I'm a bit disappointed with the Geminites comments - none of them pointed out that putting out Before Watchmen without Alan Moore's permission/blessing was one of the most egregious affronts in comic books. The awful way DC treated Moore who wrote for them not only Swamp Thing but also the Time Magazine Top 100 Best Novels of the 20th Century, Watchmen, is unbearable. I refused to buy or read Before Watchment and if people don't know about this controversy, that's fine. But for those who know, DC is disgusting for how they treated Alan. Now, with that being said, if you like Jae Lee I agree with one of the comments below to check out the Inhumans mini-series and also the first Dark Tower arc (Stephen King)!!!

I wasn't a huge fan of the before Watchmen mini series. I personally was felt like it was a waste of time and even though I don't like the main story like that I beat it is a good story it's just not for me and I don't think it is the greatest superhero story of all time I personally have a certain opinion about that. In which I'll get into that one day. No offense to any of the writers because all the writers like Brian azzarello. I just felt like it wasn't a alan. if Alan moore had come back and kind of had a hand in before Watchmen I probably would have accepted in a little bit more because I just felt like each of the stores or like some of them were hits like you said and something women like why did you even tell the story this this is really dumb. Rorschach was good I'm not going to lie that when I like that when I don't know if you liked it but I liked it but the rest of them were like if he for me someone we're good. But I just felt like they were unnecessary. It feels the same way I feel about Doomsday Clock and I feel like that it's a good story but it shouldn't have been told. I know that's a weird thing to say that the store should have not been told because if it wasn't a lab or try to have some creative control over this before stuff and like gives it put out a sweater. I think they would have been a lot better for me. And I'm not trying to knock all the writers that wrote the miniseries because I personally think that they're great writers but it just I really wish they didn't touch the story if it wasn't Alum or at least having some input for some of the creativity in the stories it was like why even try now some of the writers they had some good ideas. But for me personally no I just say no to that I mean it happened and I got accepted which I did it was a good attempt but I just felt like now and I'm still like I'm not I'm still not a super big fan of watching I will admit that I'm not a big fan of watching I feel that Watchmen for me personally is like Alan Moore week as work. Compared to Promethea top 10 Swamp Thing Tom strong Batman The Killing Joke in a few other works I feel like watching for me was the weakest work. And I'm not saying it's not a great piece of work I mean it's just not personally for me I just felt like it was just it was week I mean I get what he was trying to do but I felt like Garth Ennis the boys was a better word of try to dismantle superheroes and I felt like it was our generation washer Watchmen that no one talks about
