Not covered in this video but from reading the tech spec I understand that there are very important differences in the two motors. The Herald is DC where speed is controlled by variable resistors while the Envoy/Regent are AC and speed is controlled by a variable frequency module. AC tends to be preferred as there is minimal impact on torque at different speeds.

What a helpful video. I’ve just replaced my Herald with a Regent after much agonising (I’m in the UK) and have spent the last week redoing my shed to accommodate it as my Herald was bench mounted. Looking forward to using it. And, yes, it is very quiet. Thank you for sharing 🌞

The spindle lock, that you mentioned, is only for indexing not for taking chucks on and off. Good review. personally, if I was choosing I would either go for the Herald, for pens, small turnings and small bowls and you would then want the bed extension for any bowls or go for the Regent for large bowls etc. Thanks James

I have had my Herald for a few months and I absolutely love it, the only thing that is just a little annoying is the size of the hand wheel, its a little small and it would be nice to have the to have moveable controls, it has not been an issue yet but if I do some bigger bowls I can see it becoming an issue. yes I know they make a magnetic stop switch but all that does for you is add a little safety but it does nothing in your everyday use of the machine. frankly it is a little condescending. I really can't complain much because for the size it is way better than anything else in is size.

I think you made a good choice. I ordered one yesterday. It's going to be a sweet machine. Me and my wife are both left handers.

Why do their upper models have a low speed of 200-250 while the Herald goes down to 150 I believe?

Thanks Ethan really appreciate the walkthrough on the Record lathes. I have a Rikon 70-220VSR and am looking to upgrade in the future. The Regent is appealing because of it's small footprint but wondering if it's different enough to be worth it or is the Envoy the logical upgrade?

I'm in the same boat as you. I have the 70-220 and have long thought about a bigger lathe. Both seem like substantial upgrades to the 70-200. Both can take bed extensions. Both swivel for turning BIG things. My thinking is, though, that the envoy is only 17% more than the Regent. I think the biggest difference is the ubiquity of 110v vs the extra HP of the 220v Envoy.

Hi.I am really interested in purchasing the Coronet Regent 18" x 24". I saw a review on KZitem that when you press the emergency stop it doesn't stop the lathe right away but it takes some time until it stops. Do you have an idea if they fix this issue? Thank you.

Hi, thanks for good comparison and for the Envoy/Regent video too. Couple of questions. Do the Envoy/Regent speed controls operate same as Herald with pre- selection of rpm? Or just display actual spindle rpm while running? Where is the indexing view window on Envoy/Regent - haven't managed to see it in any of the photos or video clip angles. Thanks.
