In a room full of the most serious collectors and dealers in United States paper money a record price of $2,585,000 was paid for an 1891 $1000 Treasury Note. This is one of only two known for the design and the only example available for collectors. The lot opened at $1,150,000 and after spirited bidding set a record price.
