After a relationship with the narcissist, there is a recovery period to get yourself together again. PTSD is often a result of long term abuse. Shorter relationships with the narcissist usually have a shorter recovery time. Becoming aware that you have been abused by a narc is the first step to recovery. Next a person has to realize that they have a personality that the narc is attracted to. If the victim realizes that they are a codependent, then searching for ways to correct this flaw is necessary.
