Any tips for acclimating a maranta and alocasia stingray? I am recieving them soon. I usually give them a good look over and then put them in a tote box with a grow light on them. I am new to ordering plants online so the the last 2 orders were already potted up and I learned quickly that humidity was needed!

Nothing that comes to mind particular about these plants. Higher humidity and temperature are always helpful :) Make sure not to disturb them too much (repotting etc.) IF they seem to be doing good!

I TOTALLY second that! I'm SO happy I came across this video! I've stayed away from importing plants cuz I just wasn't comfortable with the information I had previously seen on KZitem😕 THANK YOU!💚

This is an INCREDIBLE video thank you so much! I'm very anxious about my first import coming in this month. Ahead of this, do you know if it would be better to just keep the plants in water and transition into soil? Or do you recommend a soak in water then sphagnum moss. I see that some people just keep their plant in water until it's established enough for soil. Edit: ah I see, if the plant needs a re-root, you probably leave in water, then sphagnum moss, then soil.

You are welcome, and I'm sure you'll do just great with your first import (; If the roots are good, I'd transfer from water (overnight soaking) to soil. If roots are meh or rotten you can either root it in water or spaghnum (depends which is your presonal preference) and then move to the soil (:

You did a better job at explaining how to rehab imported plants than any of the plant KZitem influencers that get free plants from Indonesian sellers.

This video is perfect!! Amazing job!! I have a question- I got a verrucosum, I soaked her roots for almost just over 24 hrs with super thrive (I fucked up and didn’t soak her leaves) she has minimal rot that I cut away, I’ve got her in a terrarium attached to a stick (she’s quite large) this is the third day and she still hasn’t perked up, the new growth point is wilting, do you have any suggestions for what I can do? I haven’t done anything im thinking monitoring her for now will be best due to her stress

Apologies for late reply. Don't worry if you don't soeak the leaves, its not the necessitiy, but definetively helps the plant. Verrucosums can be a divas with transport and import process. I would keep her in highest humidity possible, shaded light and just wait. They are know to get worse, before they get better. But once you are over that, they grow like weed. Hopefully she has recovered by now

This is so helpful, I have an import order coming soon and have been watching so many videos but yours is probably the best I've seen! I do have a question, when you soak the full plant would you also do this for velvet leafed plants like Melano?
@adansoniia
3 жыл бұрын
Aww thank you so much and good luck on rehab! Yes I soak them all. Yes velvety leaves are more susceptible to fungus and damage, but one water soak won't change the end outcome. Just let them dry afterwards (:

Hello. I had to ship my money tree plant because I was moving. It arrived after 6 days through winter weather. The leaves are all green, however the stems and leaves seemed to have drooped. It could have been because I rolled brown paper around it. The leaves also seem less opaque and more transparent, and a much darker green than they were. The soil is wet and I'm certain I don't need to water it. Could you please suggest what I could do about this?

Uf I personally I would repot and check the roots. If the roots have rotted/had cold damage and the soil is staying wet that is not a good sign. The leaves will probably fall off, but the main has to be the problem. If it's soft and squishy it will probably rot away and you'd have to cut it. However if it has any unaffected areas it should resprout from there! Hopefully it rehabs well!

Hello! Just wanted to say your pastazanum might be a philo Dean McDowell 😄 dmds have prominent red cataphylls while pastazanum's are usually light green! If you want more confirmation, you can check the leaf base, if theres a pink ring, you've got a dmd!!!

Heyy, actually it has come to my attention as well. Could be that or some mix with the two and more, you never know with ecua, since it doesn't seem like 100% classical McDowell

how many days do you leave plants in a shaded spot? I have a greenhouse in my closet that gets no sun. When can I turn my grow lights on I have a SANSI grow light pointed in the direction but at a far distance and have been moving it closer to increase the light gradually but I have grow lights in the tent I want to turn on. How many days do you find work for you?
@adansoniia

It really depends how does the plant behave. Some leaves might yellow and drop eventually however if the plant seems to be holding the leaves I would start to introducce it to more light in aprox 3 days. You can also shade them with other plants that you have (hopefully this makes sense)

When you transfer from moss to soil, can you just leave the moss in there and put soil around it? I always see people painfully removing the moss.
@littlechickenfarm2436

Remove the moss the roots were shipped in, otherwise the roots can and probably will, rot.
@adansoniia

Thanks for replying, it is exactly as you said. Moss has amaying abosrbing abilities thus it can hold a lot of water and if there is a lot stuck to the roots, it can suffocate them (meaning no oxygen, so fungus and bacteria that thrive in anaerobic conditions start to grow and cause rot).

Do you do any pest prevention measures. I saw somebody putting hydrogen peroxide in the bath water for the plants to disinfect them 🤔
@adansoniia
3 жыл бұрын
I havent tried the peroxide as a pesticide, however I tend to spray all my newcomers with pesticide, and usually remove the soil as well (if there is one). Can go an extra mile and use fungicide as well (:
