You know, the other day I went to a restaurant and there were ONLY options to leave a 25, 35 or 45 percent tip...Nowadays everyone is thinking it, Dick is just saying it...

Nah, just don't tip at all. If everyone stopped tipping, you can be sure it would be a shit storm and the tipping issue would solve itself. Meanwhile, you don't get scammed.

Tips= To -Insure-Prompt-Service. People used to put the tip out before service, & the better the tip, the better the service. Should go back to that so we wouldn't need to waste time on lousy customers. Anybody ever notice that the more they run you the less they tip?

Riiight.. That's like pre-ordering games that aren't finished yet. You know what happens? They already have the money, so they get lazy and deliver bad product. The exact same thing would happen with your ill-thought proposal
@crazycatladybj

It is not my "ill-thought proposal". It's how tipping started. There would be a box on the table, like a little cage, & people would put their tip in & then service would match the tip. You've obviously never been a server, because we would definitely give good service to a good tipper. We'd want them to come back to us. You sound like the kind of customer who costs severs money. Do you know that the gov. taxes servers based on their sales, regardless of whether they were tipped or not? Do you also know we are paid $2.13/hr.? We need the good tippers.

There was an article on-line, about a guy who sort of did exactly this, which is why I was looking for this video. Although, he was a total jerk about it, and it was only $5 (The meal costs $80) :(

Tipping is stupid imo. If I buy an expensive meal, why should I pay more for the same service just bc my food cost more? Ok so you make like 2 bucks an hour. I'll still tip you well, but if my foods $100 some fancy steak idk. 10 bucks is enough imo. Isn't like you are doing more work.

@@carac6785 In America they should pay the serving staff enough that tips are not expected. The rest of the world tipping is not expected.

@@nickmilligan3662 The problem with that, having lived and been to such countries where tipping is not required...the service is often worse, or you pay more for eating out on average than you would in the US. Now if you spent $80 on a aged steak for example you wouldn't mind not paying a tip and the restaurant paying their staff more could in theory do so as you among others are paying a high price at a premium place. But what about something like 3 tacos at a average restuant for lunch costing $25 because they added the tip within the meal? Tipping is best on the side than added in, otherwise you'd be spending more for less generally, unless you make every outing worth it, and the service would be better.

@@vjmtz You will pay more for eating out on average if tips aren't required. I've worked in restaurants, not as a server but in the back of the house so I have a bit of an idea how things work. If people don't want to tip, fine, but that means that everything on the menu will have to be raised by at least $3; so they'll end up paying either way.
@onikin

@@crepesoftime you only pay more for eating out if you tip like crap anyway. Adding the "service fee" to the total cost of the meal will be around 15%, give or take, and so would only make things more expensive for people that don't tip anywhere near that percentage. And screw those people. Including the service fee in the final bill just makes life easier for the rest of us.
