How unhappy Karen must have been, to starve herself as she did. To remain unable to accept that she looked hopelessly emaciated, to the point of dying from, essentially, undernourishment... Why she didn't get the intensive help she so clearly needed - to remain so miserable in the face of all those successes. An unnecessary end that must have been such a heartbreak to all her family. Well I recall the profound shock even I felt on hearing news of her death half a planet away, far moreso than all the 27 year olds whose early ends in the musical industry used to make the headlines even younger than did Karen. A truly lovely lass when at her best, with an angel's voice. What pressures "society" puts on young women, to push them so....

Her mother was too controlling and Karen tried so hard to get her mother to acknowledge her. 😢nothing worked. Karen felt that she could only control her weight and that is how it started. It was something no one could tell her what to do. Her mother was the one who needed help from the start.

The burden that Karen carried deep in her heart gave her voice the power to touch us all at a deep personal level. I'm 80 and never did find that 'someone' that I could turn to so I listened to Karen's many songs that seemed to understand the emptiness. I am thankful that I did see her in concert.

Vincent Gelder, lol 😆. I believe if the yelling would stop and live concert performances were less aggressive, a new voice would surface from the existing artists. It is a miracle how some of these singers have not screwed up their voices. Karen Carpenter drew her audience in by her smooth sound, clear pitch and clear articulation (people memorized her lyrics because they were audible and understood). No one can duplicate her, but the music industry needs to seek a “mellow” sound that doesn’t encourage anger with hatred. I may be ole fashion, oh well...

She had anorexia nervosa. It differs from anorexia. While anorexia focuses on the physical appearance, anorexa nervosa is related to other issues, emotional and mental. A person suffering from anorexia nervosa can have an abusive / toxic family or family member. Whatever the case was, I just wanted to share the difference. I hope no one in this word has to starve or suffer of lack of food and nutrients for any reason.

I watched the story about Karen Carpenter and there was a guy on there that said that he heard one of the producers tell Karen that she had to lose weight because she looked 30 pounds heavier on camera.
