For future reference, it's not good to let the tranny hang. It's hard on the motor mounts, and can also damage the transmission input shaft. It's best to support the motor by using a jack, with a piece of wood on top, under the oil pan.

Yeah, I figured that one out after I pulled the cross member 😅 luckily the motor mounts are trashed anyway and hopefully gave me some slack on the input shaft. I have the tranny torn apart now and everything still looks good.

Just did this same thing on my 78, defiantly a hassle to get everything loose and out. The rebuild itself is defiantly worth doing on the trans. Pretty easy too. I’m trying to get mine all back together before the summer up here in the North. Cheers man!

I have just done exactly what you are doing but on a 1948 CJ2A, my synchro had dropped the three blockers and ended up in the bottom of the gearbox in pieces, Looks like that oil should have been changed a long time ago.

The V6 actually had a T-86AA transmission, not a T-90

And first gear on this trans is very weak (for the v6)I broke two in ten years on my 68
