Here is some additional information on Ren's story that I gathered from old newspaper interviews, articles, and Ren's livestreams and posts where he discussed his condition. Ren Erin Gill is a British musician/independent artist; born in Wales on March 29, 1990; he eventually moved to Brighton. Ren pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, Ren began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures. In 2010, he was signed by Sony Records and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point where he was unable to continue; subsequently, his contract with Sony was dissolved. Ren's illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours daily. Ren was initially misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which led him to experience psychosis and develop PTSD. It would take seven years before a doctor in Belgium finally correctly diagnosed Ren with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and resulting damage to the brain, organs, joints, and PTSD. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure. Ren is currently in Calgary, Canada for more treatments, including surgeries, and will have to be there for at least six months (Summer of 2023) undergoing IV and other interventions five days a week. Ren recently underwent wisdom tooth removal and cavitation surgery. In addition, his Canadian doctor discovered that Ren also developed a condition called Mast Cell Activation Disorder (MCAD), which has affected the myelin sheath in his brain, his thyroid, adrenals as well as his bones/joints. Now, Ren is receiving additional treatments for this previously undiagnosed condition. Let's keep supporting Ren as he undergoes his treatments. Check out and subscribe to his channel, if you are a content creator, ask your audience to subscribe to Ren. Ren's YT channel has less than 1 million subscribers while his videos have garnered millions and millions of views. Listen to some of his earlier work, like and comment on his performances, and let's lift Ren's spirits. If you are a believer, pray for him. Ren is an artist with something to say to the world, and his work is important in these troubling times. Someone has finally created a Wikipedia page for Ren, so there is additional information available. Here is the link to Ren’s GoFundMe page to raise money for his current treatment. Ren has exceeded his initial goal. However, his goal was very conservative and did not reflect the added costs of unforeseen surgical procedures, and treatment for additional health issues such as MCAD. www.gofundme.com/f/ren-get-better-from-lyme-disease-and-autoimmunity

We all had that quiet, flabbergasted look the first time we saw Ren. He’s an amazing storyteller. A phenomenal independent artist who produces all kinds of different music. The Tales of Jenny & Screech (Full version) is 21st Century Shakespeare. Unless it's called a retake, he writes the lyrics, the music, the beats, plays instruments and beat boxes. He plans the videos. Not sure what you guys like since this is my first stop here, but I encourage you to check him out. His raps and stories are great, but I've mostly been listening to his more musical stuff like Humble, Ocean, Power, Genesis, and Chalk Outlines. Ren & Sam do a lot of one take videos (usually with one camera), and I think Animal Flow is the craziest 1take.

Welcome to the world of Ren.. wait till you see what he has in his rabbit hole of music. Rap: animal flow and the live version are fire, the Hunger, Genesis, illist of our time, losing it fisher retake.. guitar vocals: Chalk outlines, money game 1 and 2, tales of Jenny and screech. Busking with his band Big Push: covers of war pigs, I shot the sheriff the list goes on and on. The man not only is talented with his words, he plays a lot of instruments, creates his own beats and helps with the film production. His latest song Suicide is about his best friend Joe Hughes that he lost 12 years ago when he jumped off a bridge.. I don’t think you guys are gonna be disappointed. One reason British music leads the world is that during ww2 millions of yanks were here for three years , both black and white , and they brought their music , and I. Welcome to the Ren Rabbit Hole. Ren makes his own beats, writes his own lyrics and truely enjoys the work his live 1-take videos demand. Look into his history. Look into the band he is in named "The Big Push". Follow and react to each member of his band, as well as those he collaberates with. Talent attracts talent. Ren also does Retakes ( using songs not his own and putting his lyrics to them), he and his band do actual covers and mashups while busking. (If you dont know what busking is, you will). He raps, he sings, he plays several instruments (youtube self taught). He produces his own videos with friends and they are populated with friends & friends of friends. Only genre I havent seen him indulge in yet is American country western.

Keep listening to more, sick boi sort of goes with hi Ren and talks more about his illnesses he has had for 10+ years but is once again a totally different style, chalk outlines live version you will hear him sing more, illest of our time and animal flow (1-take) showcase his rap skills, money game parts 1 and 2 he gets political, power and losing it retake are more fun. Everybody (well except for complete pathological narcissists!) can relate to this -because jus about everyone has some level of self doubt and reflection and negative self talk at times. But, yes, Ren has battled with episodes of psychosis and has had admissions to psych units for treatment. As he states at the end, he has battled several health issues and has often been misdiagnosed and right now is currently receiving intensive treatment for chronic long term Lyme Disease. What Ren does here is a whole 'theatre piece' of raw honesty and great acting - which places us all in the midst of what experiencing a full on psychotic episode feels like. In this one song; Ren has done an enormous amount of GOOD in gaining understanding and empathy for people with mental health issues - whether ongoing or episodic. This powerfully reduces community stigma -which is just as disabling an having a mental illness.. # Let me just speak to the really "sit up and take notice" part -(and we SHOULD take note - Thank you Ren ) >> "You gotta kill you if you wanna kill me." This is actually the most dangerous ' internal voice' to experience, and sit's in the background of suicidal ideas- that fluctuate from barely aware, low level murmuring, to prominent "SHOUTING" and 'escape' plan making. Many people do kill themselves because they feel there is no other way to escape the hateful voice/ voices. [* What many people don't realise is that Psychotic Disorders have double the risk of suicide over that of Severe Depression, although part of this stat is due to people with psychosis, often ALSO having concurrent Depression ] It is really important to understand that, whilst our mental health systems have a lot of problems, and are vasty under funded, there absolutely IS a place for a system to detain people to treatment facilities for their own, or others safety. # Here is just one very illustrative example about thought disorder that I think helps our understanding of how serious warped thinking can be. >This example involves a 15 year old boy who was found lying on the railway tracks. When the Police asked him why, he said he wanted the train to take his head away because the voices in there were driving him mad. At the emergency department he was asked why he wanted to commit suicide, and he was most surprised, and indignant, that anyone would think that! He was emphatic that he had no wish to die, he just wanted the voices gone and because they were in his head, he'd decided this was the most efficient 'removal method'. He was absolutely unable to join the dots and understand that he would have died. And that's just one story. We need artists like Ren, who have 'lived experience', to tell these stories, so we can get help, either for ourselves or others, and save lives.

Maybe also worth noting that until the video Ren is about to work on, he says they’ve never spent more than £1000 on any video - like this one, they were not supposed to be there recording, just 3 cameras, two lamps and a couple of other lights mostly out of shot, an old hospital chair, a hospital gown they had from an earlier video, then the guitar and recording kit and go… It’s all in the idea and planning. As someone said, apparently they got 3 takes into this before the landlord showed up to tell them to quit - the audio was all apparently recorded live from one of those takes, and the video does mix a couple of the takes in (at least, I think that’s confirmed and there are a couple of spots where it definitely is from different takes as his hand jumps from being on the strings to not being etc). Yes, Ren has described his psychosis while suffering from the misdiagnosis in particular - but he didn’t describe that as hearing voices, more that he became convinced the only explanation for his on going pain and suffering was demons. He has also described when he was much younger, before he got Lyme Disease (LD which I wonder might be the Easter egg on the chair btw) he described seeing and hearing a character who would tell him to do things that were not positive. He kind of took it for granted as a kid and then it stopped for years until he saw the person one last time. (At least, I think that’s how he described it - it’s been a while since I read his description of that time). He’s also had a tough life in other ways - losing 2 close friends to su!c*d before he was 25, got a music A&R person from Sony interested when he was a teenager and making his first album when he got ill with LD and couldn’t finish it and Sony let him out of his contract - so he spent years stuck in his bedroom, in pain, thinking his dreams were gone and desperately trying to find medical help until eventually luckily someone identified LD and he started getting treatment that worked. He’s had multiple videos go viral previously from his street performances in Brighton (“worlds best busker” etc) but it was really Hi Ren that has really taken him to a new level and seemingly on an unstoppable wave. I hope you enjoy discovering more as this is just one facet of his talent - check almost anything from his back catalogue on KZitem and it’s incredible, and almost completely different every time - he’s a story teller, a skilled singer, a rapper, a street entertainer, a videographer, director, music engineer, plays guitar, base, piano, drums and I’m sure other things ….and he’s a gent - he loves helping others, loves seeing and helping others succeed. You have opened the cookie jar - now you get to feast :)
