So as I ran into in my last video on making the pulley key way for the cutter grinder, the brass and aluminum heads for the replaceable head hammer...suck. And by suck I mean the fitment is such that it only holds on the threads vs having a clean seat of the replaceable hammer head against the head body. That is a recipe for disaster as I found out, as it stripped the brass threads right off the original head...and the aluminum head has the same issue.
So this video is me trying to make the M8 1.25 threads deeper in the head itself and that worked using the new taps I bought.
Next was to try and make a new aluminum head (since I have some of that) and if that works, maybe it will be worth trying to make a new brass head too. But if the new aluminum head does not work, then I may try and make a new center head section for the hammer so I know everything fits properly.
Unfortunately I had not planned to do this project until next weekend (but this weeks project fell through), so I do not yet have the m8 1.25 die to cut the new threads, that comes Thursday (this is Sunday). But this was a successful second project on the lathe as everything I tried for it so far worked...and I got more lathe practice in.
