We have a detatched garage at my work that uses one of these exhaust fans to remove heat from ceiling. We are installing another 2. The garage is about 900ft². Hope that will be enough to cool garage. Thanks for video

My partner is always moving storage in and out of the attic. Is there a recommended way of covering the fans from the attic access? I mounted chicken wire over the whole fan, protecting unaware people. Good idea, bad idea? Thank you.

How can u diagnose if it's thermostat and or motor that has gone bad?

You can diagnose it this way: - first, turn off the breaker providing power to the fan (safety). - then, unwrap the wirenuts connecting the fan to the thermostat. - once that is done, you can connect your fan directly to the power source going to the thermostat, if the wires are long enough. If they are not and you have a spare plug from a broken item you can cut off the broken item and then use the wirenuts to connect that power cord to the fan, then turn on the breaker and see if the fan runs [you may need an extension cord to reach an outlet]). That is exactly how I tested mine. - you can test the thermostat one of two ways; 1) if you have a multimeter you can watch to see if the connection changes as you move the setting above/below the current ambient temperature, or 2) using the same method as above, you could wire it to something like a lamp and see if it comes on (but it would have to have exposed wires you could connect to it using wirenuts)

Question, can you buy new fan same model and size, and use keep existing roof vent In place?

I was able to, but I expect it depends. Get the make model number off the current motor then do a web search; that's what I did.

If I place the thermostat at 60 will it run in the winter time? Or at night?
@RandyEarl

If you set it at 60 it will run when the temperature is 60F or above, regardless of season or daylight hours. The manufacturer does not suggest setting it below 100F, because any lower than that it would be running continuously in warm weather and the fan is not designed for that, so it would eventually fail.

Does that type only react by turning that little white area or could there be a on and off switch somewhere else?

This type is activated by a thermal switch - what I was adjusting was the setting for the temperature level that will activate the fan. I had set it to really high so it would not activate while I was wiring it up, then I turned the temperature setting down below the temperature at the time to see if it would work. Then I set it to the temperature when I wanted it to activate in normal operation. Since I wanted it to come on based on temperature, I did not have a switch anywhere, but you could wire in a switch if you want.
